Following India’s win against Malaysia in their opening incident of the Bihar Women’s Asian Champions Trophy 2024, Director General of Bihar Sports, Ravindran Shankaran told that in 2025 a lot of national and international tournaments will take place in the state.

The Indian Women’s Hockey Team started their Bihar Women’s Asia Champions Trophy 2024 campaign with a 4-0 win over Malaysia in Rajgir on Monday (11th November 2024).

“The Asian Women Hockey Champions has been inaugurated with so much enthusiasm by the Chief Minister in the electrifying atmosphere for the first time Bihar and its people are getting to spot this. This is just the beginning. A lot of events are going to come and in the next year a lot of national and international championships are going to happen,” Ravindran Shankaran said ANI.

Udita (44′), Preeti Dubey (43′) and Sangita Kumari (8′,55′) establish the back of the net in a game that saw India create numerous chances and put on a solid defensive performance to walk away with three points.

India were slow to begin the game and Malaysia’s Nur Mohd was presented with the first opportunity to score after a clever run in behind the defence but Savita who is Indian goalkeeper was on hand to bail the team out and save them from early turns.

Malaysia earned a penalty corner soon after but the shot was diverted wide. Jolted into action, India wrestled back control over the ball and earned two penalty corners in quick succession. On the second incident after a groped stop. Deepika shot the ball towards the goal and Sangita Kumari who was wary to slot the ball into goal from close range and make it 1-0 for India.

India continued to press down the Malaysian team and created two chances for Preeti Dubey to score but Preeti was unable to convert it to the opportunity. Captain Salima Tete earned a penalty corner with 10 seconds to go but India couldn’t take advantage of.

India board shipped on another quick transition with Sangita who weaved past two defenders into the shooting circle and unleashed a reverse tomahawk to make it a brace for her on the day and end the game in India’s support.

India face a alarming as they target to bounce back from their series defeat against New Zealand and challenge Australia in the upcoming Border-Gavaskar Trophy. With a 4-0 victory being a near-impossible achievement, the focus shifts to Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma to deliver impactful performances. In the absence of Md. Shami, India picked a largely inexperienced pace attack to back up Siraj and Bumrah. India have to win 4 Tests in Australia to directly qualify for the WTC final that is scheduled to be held at June 2025 in Lord.

As India prepare for the much expected Border-Gavaskar Trophy- since 1992 it is first time a five-Test series- the official broadcaster shared a clip of an upcoming show where former batting legend Sunil Gavaskar and former cricketer Sanjay Manjrekar discuss about India’s probabilities against Australia.

The first test will start from 22 November 2024 in Perth. Sunil Gavaskar says, “No team, including the champion West Indies of the past has beaten Australia 4-0 to the best of my recollection. They have got a very good captain Rohit Sharma who is always been somebody who’s always been somebody who is been able to lift the team up. Rishabh Pant has got the great ability to soak up the pressure. He just wants to go out there and enjoy himself, play to the best of his ability. Forget what happened against New Zealand, they have just got to believe that they can turn the tables on Australia like they have done on the last couple of tours to Australia.”

Virat Kohli has averaged merely 22.72 in six matches in 2024, which is the lowest in his International career. His last Test century came in July 2023 which was against the West Indies.

Rohit Sharma scored 91 runs, and Virat Kohli 93 runs in the India’s shameful 0-3 Test series loss to New Zealand at the home ground.

Pakistan to tell ICC why India can’t visit for Champions Trophy- Report

The PCB (Pakistan Cricket Board) requesting for clarification from the ICC regarding India’s refusal to participate in the upcoming Champions Trophy in Pakistan. Pakistan search for reasons behind India’s decision of not participate in the Champions Trophy, potentially impacting the tournament’s future. Choices include a hybrid model or relocation of tournament, with the UAE and South Africa as potential choices.

After reports of Pakistan who is hosting Champion trophy consideration over the option of withdrawing from next year’s Champions Trophy if the tournament is taken away from the Pakistan following India’s throw out the participation in Champion Trophy. Fresh developments propose that the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) will write to the International Cricket Council (ICC) telling for reasons behind India’s decision.

As per report in ‘ Dawn ‘ a most trusted newspaper in Pakistan, PCB is ” preparing questionnaires” and will ask the ICC to clarify the stand taken by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI).

Mohsin Naqvi, the Pakistan Cricket Board chairman and who is also an interior minister in the Pakistan federal government, has reportedly denied accepting a hybrid model, which will allow India to play their matches at a neutral venue.

The Dawn recite its source ” As the BCCI has not given any reason behind its decision of not touring Pakistan, the future steps of the PCB to solve the issue can only be taken after knowing those,”

The tournament, which is returning to the ICC calendar after seven years, is scheduled to be played from 19th February 2025 to 9th March 2025.

Another option of playing the tournament in a hybrid setting, ICC can take it out of Pakistan altogether and host it in a different country. Names of UAE and South Africa are doing the rounds if that option is taken.

An earlier report in ‘Dawn’ quoted its source “In such a case, one of the options the government is mulling is that of asking the PCB to ensure Pakistan don’t participate in the Champions Trophy,”

Bilateral cricket ties between India and Pakistan have been on hold from last 12 years, since year 2012, although both nations continue to finish against each other in ICC events, with their most recent encounter being at the T20 World cup hosted jointly by the USA and the West Indies last year.

The Indian cricket team last travelled to Pakistan in year 2008.

Former Indian Cricketer Sanjay Manjrekar has criticized current head coach Gautam Gambhir’s handling of media interconnections. Sanjay Manjrekar advises the BCCI should instead delegate media interactions to Chief selector Ajit Agarkar or captain Rohit Sharma.

Former India batter Sanjay Manjrekar feels that current head coach Gautam Gambhir does not have the ‘right demeanour nor the words’ when communicating with media and the BCCI should ‘keep him away’ from such duties.

During media interaction one such answer of Gambhir raised a few eyebrows when he told, “What Ricky Ponting has to do with Indian Cricket? I think he should think about Australian Cricket,” on a reporter’s question on Australian great recent comments on Virat Kohli’s poor form.

In another occasion, Gambhir also dismissed theories that after 0-3 whitewash of India against New Zealand at home, he is under pressure and told back a reporter, “What difference does social media make in my life, and for anyone’s life? When I took up this job, I always knew that I was going to be a highly difficult job and a highly prestigious job as well.”

Probably referring to the incidents, Manjrekar in a social media post told that BCCI should not put Gambhir in front of media, pointing out that captain Rohit Sharma and chief selector Ajit Agarkar can be better choices.

In the presser, Gautam Gambhir also put up a flattish defence for under- pressure captain Rohit Sharma and star batsman Virat Kohli, telling they are still incredibly hungry to perform and will rebound back in Australia.

“There are incredible people in the dressing room who have done a great job” Gautam Gambhir said.
Kohli has already arrived in Perth and the first batch of players that left India on Sunday evening will reached in Australia this evening. The first test between India and Australia will start on 22 November 2024 in Perth.
