India tour of England: Gautam Gambhir welcomes Karun Nair – ‘Comebacks are never easy’

After eight years, Karun Nair is back in the India Test team, marked by a extraordinary double century against England Lions. Indian cricket team coach Gautam Gambhir praised Nair’s inspiring comeback and flexibility, while teammate KL Rahul highlighted Nair’s dedication during his time when he was playing county cricket in the United Kingdom. India will play his first Test vs England on 20th June 2025.The Test specialist Karun Nair joined the senior team ahead of the upcoming marquee Test series against England in Beckenham on 13th June 2025.

Karun Nair expressed his appreciation for the second chance to represent India in Test cricket.

Karun Nair told “Feels really special. Very grateful and fortunate to be able to get this opportunity gain. Looking forward to grabbing this opportunity with both hands,”

Head coach Gautam Gambhir welcomed Karun Nair. “comebacks are never easy. The amount of runs you have got, the never-give-up attitude – it’s inspiring for the entire team. Welcome back, Karun Nair,” Gambhir told.

KL Rahul, told about his teammate’s determination during challenging times.

“I have known him for a very long time. The months he has spent here in the UK playing cricket and how lonely it was. For him to be able to do all of that and come back into the Indian team is special for him and his family, and friends like us who have seen his Journey,” told Rahul. KL Rahul further highlighted the inspirational aspect of Nair’s return and his experience in county cricket.

“It’s very inspiring as well. Hopefully his experience and learning from County cricket here will hold him in good stead when he plays the Test matches,” Rahul added.

Nair explained his return to the Indian dressing room as surreal.

“I’ll have to experienced that feeling myself, just go out there and feel it for myself. I’m sure there’ll be a lot of feelings, ones that I can’t express right now. It’ll be a surreal feeling,” Karun Nair told.
