England secured a five-wicket win over India in the first Test of the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy series at Headingley on Tuesday. In 82 overs England chased down the target of 371 ending on 373/5 easily to go 1-0 up in the five-match series.
Resuming Day 5 on 21 without loss, openers Duckett and Zak Crawley (65) put on a 188-run stand, making the perfect foundation. Even India fought back with four wickets in the second session Duckett’s knock kept England ahead.
Jasprit Bumrah bowled a probing opening spell, while Shardul Thakur raised hope of India by taking the wickets of Duckett and Harry Brook in successive balls.

Joe Root (53*) and debutant Jamie Smith (44*) combined for an undamaged 71-run stand to see England home with relieve.
Smith secured the win with towering six on the Ravindra Jadeja ball.
The second test starts at Edgbaston, Birmingham from July 2-6, in which India needing a strong reply to skip falling further behind in the 5-match series.
