Shubman Gill now named captain for this team after great performance in England Tests

Along with Shubman Gill who scored 754 runs in the five Tests in England and became India’s player of the series, Anshul Kamboj, Arshdeep Singh and Harshit Rana are the other remarkable names in the 15-member squad. Shubman Gill has been appointed as the captain of the North Zone squad for the upcoming Duleep Trophy, which will start from 28th August in Bengaluru. Kamboj had made his Test debut in the fourth match against England at Manchester, whereas Harshit Rana played in India ‘A’ games against England Lions and Arshdeep Singh didn’t get a match to play in the Test series.

Today the Zonal selection committee who selected the squad in a meeting in New Delhi also announced that services’ Shubham Rohilla, Punjab’s Gurnoor Brar and Haryana’s Anuj Thakral will be included in the main squad if either of Shubman Gill, Rana and Arshdeep are included for Indian team’s upcoming assignments clash with the Duleep Trophy.

Men’s T20 Asia Cup will be India’s next assignment which is set to happen from September 9-28 in the UAE. The Duleep Trophy will be held in the old zonal format of six teams which will mark the starting of 2025/26 domestic cricket season. North zone will start their match with a quarter-final clash against East Zone at the BCCI Centre of Excellence Ground and winner of this match will play with South Zone in the semi-final.
