Asia Cup 2025: Pakistan Coach Mike Hesson starts mind games, brands Mohammad Nawaz No. 1 spinner

Ahead of India vs Pakistan clash in Asia Cup 2025 on Sunday, Pakistan head coach Mike Hesson has started mind games by declaring that Mohammad Nawaz is the best spinner of the world. On the eve of Pakistan vs Oman clash in Dubai Kiwi coach speaking to the press and made a stirring remark,declaring left-armer Mohammad Nawaz as the world’s best spinner.

Recently in the tri-nation T20 final against Afghanistan at Sharjah, Nawaz got a five wickets will headline Pakistan’s slow bowling alongside wrist spinners Abrar Ahmed and Sufiyan Muqeem.

Intention of Hesson was understandably to raise the morale of team of Pakistan but the statement also carries an air of psychological mind game in e build-up to the long-awaited IND vs PAK Asia Cup 2025 encounter on Sunday, 14th September 2025.

The Pakistan cricket team have an array of spinners, including Nawaz, Abrar Ahmed and Sufiyan Muqeem, on the other side Team India have their own coach of spinners in Kuldeep Yadav, Axar Patel and Varun Chakravarthy.

Since in July Nawaz coming back into the T20I fold, he has succeeded under coaching of Hesson. Nawaz, a left-arm spinner has taken 20 wickets in 11 matches in which one hat-trick against Afghanistan in Sharjah in recently concluded tri-series.

“I guess the beauty of our side is we’ve got five spinners. We have got Mohamed Nawaz, who’s the best spin bowler in the world at the moment, and he’s been ranked that way over the last six months since he is come back on the side,” Hesson said the press when asked if Sunday’s match would be decided by the fight of the spinners.

Hesson also told that Pakistan have depth in bowling and batting and will decide on their combinations based on the conditions in Dubai. The Kiwi also told on ability of Saim Ayub, and declaring him amongst the top 10 batter in the world.
