As Captain, Shubman Gill matches 47-Year-Old Record of Sunil Gavaskar

After Sunil Gavaskar, Shubman Gill became only the second Indian captain who score 50 or more runs on his first home Test as team leader. In year 1978, when Sunil Gavaskar hitted a fifty-plus score, also against West Indies, in his first Test as captain at home. Since then, no another skipper of Indian team has managed to attain the same feat before Shubman Gill took matter in his own hands.

With absolute brilliant performances, India captain Shubman Gill has begun his captaincy stint, both at home and away. Shubman Gill hit a staggering 147 in his first innings as Test skipper which came in first Test against England. Now, in his first home Test innings, Shubman Gill scored a fifty. Shubman Gill also equaled long-standing 47-year-old record of former captain Sunil Gavaskar with his half-century in first Test against West Indies in Ahmedabad. As he completed in England with 754 runs in 10 innings, it is interesting to know how many runs he scores in his first Test series as skipper at home.

Shubman Gill equals 47-year record of Sunil Gavaskar

In year 1978, when Sunil Gavaskar hitted a fifty-plus score, also against West Indies in his first Test as skipper at home. Since then, no any Indian skipper has scored the same feat before Shubman Gill took matter in his own hands. However, Sunil Gavaskar scored a brilliant 205 but Gill was out just after achieving his half century. In India’s first innings, wicket of Gill was the third in first innings of India had overtaken first innings score of West Indies of 162 runs by 26 runs. With Rahul, he added 88 runs for the third wicket before being dismissed.

In Ahmedabad Test, India is in strong position

India begun day 2 of the first Test from the overnight score of 121/2-42 short of the first innings score of the visitors. Before captain Gill was out for 50, 88-run third wicket partnership of Gill and Jadeja took them into the lead.
