India squad announcement for Australia tour: Shubman Gill named ODI skipper, Shreyas Iyer named VC: Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli return in squad

For the upcoming three-match series in Australia, Shubman Gill has been named captain of the Indian One day international team and Shreyas Iyer has been named vice-captain of the Indian ODI team for providing additional stability to the leadership setup. This marking a notable leadership transition as Rohit Sharma steps down from the role. Rohit Sharma along with grandmaster Virat Kohli, has be remained in the 15-member ODI squad, focusing a strategy to maintain experience while preparing a new leader.

India’s premier pacer Jasprit Bumrah rested for the ODIs for workload management whereas following consistent performance in T20 internationals of young left-hander Yashasvi Jaiswal makes a return to the 50-over format. The ODIs series between India and Australia are set to be played in Sydney, Adelaide, and Melbourne between October 19 and 25. After finishing ODIs India will play a five-match T20 series.

The ODI squad of India comprises Shubman Gill (C), Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, Shreyas Iyer (VC), KL Rahul (WK), Axar Patel, Nitish Kumar Reddy, Washington Sundar, Kuldeep Yadav, Harshit Rana, Mohammed Siraj, Arshdeep Singh, Prasidh Krishna, Dhruv Jurel (wk), and Yashasvi Jaiswal.

The T20I squad of India comprises Suryakumar Yadav (C), Shubman Gill (VC), Abhishek Sharma, Tilak Varma, Nitish Kumar Reddy, Shivam Dube, Axar Patel, Jitesh Sharma (WK), Varun Chakaravarthy, Jasprit Bumrah, Arshdeep Singh, Kuldeep Yadav, Harshit Rana, Sanju Samson (WK), Rinku Singh, and Washington Sundar.

As team India prepares for challenging Australian tour, the selections underline a balance of experience and youth players.
