Shreyas Iyer injury update: Shocking medical bulletin released after Shreyas Iyer undergoes surgery

During the third and final ODI against Australia, India star Shreyas Iyer has been excluded after a shocking injury at the Sydney Cricket Ground (SCG) in Sydney on October 25. While sprinting forward for a hard catch to take out Alex Carey off bowling of Harshit Rana. Though, ODI vice-captain of India finished the catch brilliantly, but Iyer collapsed in pain soon after and was leave the ground. Later, his condition made worse and he was immediately raced to the hospital in Sydney.

Shreyas Iyer undergoes surgery after an unusual injury in Sydney

Iyer’s medical scans committed a ruptured spleen and damage to his rib cage, due to which internal bleeding. This all happened due to the awkward fall of Shreyas Iyer. Now, a current update came on the Shreyas Iyer. According to report of Cricbuzz, due to spleen injury, Shreyas Iyer underwent surgery on Tuesday (28 October). The surgery went smoothly, and Shreyash Iyer has now fully recovered from injury. He is out of ICU and remains in stable condition now.

However, the 30-year-old Indian vice-captain has suggested to rest for about five to seven days before restarting any physical activity. As per report, “We can confirm that Shreyas Iyer recently underwent surgery and has totally recovered since. The surgery was apparently a minor procedure, but it has required Iyer to rest for at least five more days, possibly even up to a week.”

The Indian cricket team and the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) have been keeping a close eye on recovery of Iyer. The Indian team’s physician, Dr. Rizwan Khan, is presently in Australia, and he has been routinely monitoring health of Iyer. During of Iyer’s period of recovery, the BCCI has also arranged for a family member to travel to Sydney to be with him. After finishing recovery period, the medical team will examine his progress and decide when Iyer can safely fly back to India.

“The doctors and physios said that whatever happened was unfortunate. This kind of thing rarely happens. But Shreyas is also rare. So, rare things sometimes happen with rare talent. But it’s okay. God was with him; he is recovering really well. All the doctors are supporting him. BCCI is in full support. So, he will recover soon, and the we will take him home with us.”
