In the T20I history, Abhishek Sharma has etched his name, in just 28 innings he reaches 1000 runs and becoming the second-fastest Indian to achieve this milestone. Only one player Virat Kohli has achieved this achievement in fewer innings. Abhishek Sharma also holds the record for the achieving the fastest 1000 runs by balls faced among full member nations. During the rain-interrupted 5th T20I match against Australia, he achieved this milestone, where in the powerplay, he was dropped twice. Abhishek in his 28th innings achieved the landmark, one inning behind Virat Kohli, who got there in 27 innings. On the list of fewest innings taken by Indian players to achieve 1000 T20I runs, the left-hander is now ahead of KL Rahul (29 innings), Suryakumar Yadav (31), and Rohit Sharma (40).

This milestone also highlighted striking efficiency of Abhishek Sharma. Among cricketers from full member nations, Abhishek has scored in terms of balls faced the fastest 1000 T20I runs, achieving the mark in just 528 deliveries. Previous best marks held by Suryakumar Yadav (573 balls), followed by Phil Salt (599 balls), Glenn Maxwell (604 balls) and Andre Russell & Finn Allen (609 balls) are surpassed by Abhishek Sharma.
During India’s fifth and final T20I against Australia at The Gabba, this landmark of Abhishek came, where he opened the innings of the match alongside Shubman Gill. Both of them gave India a flying start, racing to 52 in 4.5 overs before match abandoned due to rain and India clinch five-match series by 2-1.
