Head coach of Indian team Gautam Gambhir has told that the final call on Shubman Gill’s fitness will be made only after a thorough assessment by the team physiotherapists. Just before the begin of the second Test in Guwahati, there are no doubts about it that the Indian squad is going through a possible captain crisis since due to a neck injury of Shubman Gill which he got while playing in the Test against South Africa at Kolkata. Skipper Shubman Gill’s position is still uncertain. It is reported that during his batting during 1st Test against South Africa he experienced a really painful neck spasm, so he was sent to the hospital for scans. BCCI medical team monitored his condition very closely during his treatment in the hospital.

If Shubman Gill misses India vs South Africa 2nd Test then who will be India’s captain?

The Board of control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has stated that Shubman Gill will miss the rest of the Kolkata Test, which makes the matter for the second Test match which will play in Guwahati even more complex in the event that Shubman Gill is unable to take part in second Test. For the role of team leader for second Test, Rishabh Pant is the most probable person. During the first Test in Kolkata, Pant has already handled the Indian team in the absence of Shubman Gill and has been Test vice captain. Pant captained India A in unofficial Tests makes him the practical pick in a situation where the regular captain can not take the field. Neck injury is critical for a Test cricketer, and it seems that Gill depending on the speed of his recovery will either be available for Guwahati Test or not.
