In the One Day Internationals (ODIs), Virat Kohli continues his golden runs with the bat, scoring a stellar century against New Zealand in the third ODI. The century came during the third and final ODI of the series on Sunday in Indore, which marked his record-extending 54th ODI hundred. Virat Kohli also surpassed tally of runs at number three in ODIs of Ricky Ponting, becoming the most run-scorer at number three position.

As India was chasing a target of 338 runs in the third ODI against New Zealand, innings of Kohli came at a crucial juncture. Virat Kohli scored his century off 91 balls, hitting eight fours and two sixes. This century was his 85th international ton and seventh against New Zealand. With this century, he now has seven or more ODI centuries against five different teams.

Despite wickets falling at the other end, innings of Virat Kohli was a perfect mix of aggression and patience, as he kept India in the hunt. For the fifth wicket before accelerating with Harshit Rana, he first added 88 runs with Nitish Kumar Reddy. The duo in only 69 balls put on a quickfire 99-runs partnership, with Harshit Rana scoring his maiden ODI half-century.India lost by 41 runs even after Kohli departed on 108-ball 124 runs.

Kohli became highest run-scorer in ODIs at the number three position with 12,662 runs at an average of 61.53. In his total 54 ODI hundred, 47 hundreds have come at this position. He went past tally of 1,2662 runs of Ricky Ponting at number three. At this position, no other batter has even 10,000 ODI runs.

Overall, Virat Kohli in ODI cricket extended his century tally to 54. He is currently the second-highest run-scorer in the ODI only behind Sachin Tendulkar (18,426).
