The Euro Cup has served us some exciting football throughout the last few weeks. Several greats have faced backlashes, while several underdogs have done major upsets in the tournament. But this has been different for the unbeaten Spanish side, as they have advanced into the Quarter-finals.

De la Fuente’s side battled back into the game after an unfortunate own goal had the heavyweights lagging in the early minutes of the game. Man City midfielder Rodri pulled back with a distant stunner to equalize the scores for Spain.

Though Mamardashvili kept denying Spain’s desperate attempts at the Gerogian goal, he could not resist Fabian Ruiz’s header from a near-perfect cross by the Spanish teen talent Yamal. Then began the one-sided riot by Williams and Yamal, as Spain demolished the Georgian defence from either flank, with Dani Olmo creating a great impact in the centre.

Once again, Spanish left-winger Nico Williams put on a stellar show at Cologne as he contributed at every position on the field before finding the back of the net for the third time for Spain that night. He finished immensely well from the sideline of the box in the 75th minute of the game.

Even the Spanish defence could have accounted for the best of their days; however, it was the lack of possession for Georgia that did not pose much of a threat to the backline. Spain beat all in the forward plays and counters with their irresistible speed, but we did not see much of the famous Spanish mid-field saga of tiki-taka. Their reliance lay on forwards; however, questions might be raised over why Morata is even the captain of Spain, provided his cheapness of play on the field.

With the far more competent Germans awaiting them in the quarterfinals, Spain will look to find a solution to the flaws they have faced quite a bit despite their resilient performance against Georgia, the newly named giant slayer.
