Morne Morkel will become Gautam Gambhir’s coaching staff as men’s bowling coach. He has previously played and worked with Gautam Gambhir at Kolkata Knight Riders and Lucknow Super Giants. Morne Morkel who was former South Africa speedster, has been appointed as India’s men’s cricket team’s bowling coach.With Morkel’s appointment completes trio suggested by the new head coach Gautam Gambhir.
The board of control for cricket in India(BCCI) secretary Jay Shah, confirmed that Morne Morkel will join for the two-Test series against Bangladesh, which will start from 19th September 2024.It is guessing that Morne Morkel will arrive in India in time ahead of the weeklong preparatory camp in Chennai, which likely to begin from 10th September.
Morkel who was roped in as the bowling coach by Lucknow Super Giants during Gautam Gambhir’s stint as a mentor.He was Gambhir’s teammate at the Indian Premier franchisee Kolkata Knight Riders.
Along with his experience as bowling coach in franchise cricket Morkel was also bowling coach of Pakistan men’s team during the ODI World cup in India.
After appointment of Gautam Gambhir as a head coach of Indian Men’s cricket team last month Gambhir had stressed on roping in Morkel along with Ryan ten Doeschate and Abhishek Nayar.While the other two joined for the limited overs tour to Sri Lanka as assistant coaches, Morkel’s appointment was delayed due to he wasn’t available to join at such a short notice. Morne Morkel’s appointment thus completes Gambhir’s agenda.It will be notice to see how he will give the shapes the bowlers for the big five-match test series in Australia which will start later this year.
