Prime Minister Narendra Modi on yesterday(25 September 2024) admired India’s young chess players for their historic win at the 45th chess Olympiad in Budapest.
Modi the prime minister of India on Wednesday lauded India’s young chess players for their historic achievement at the 45th chess Olympiad in Budapest, where both the teams of men’s and women’s secured their maiden gold medals. India create history on Sunday as the men’s team defeated Slovenia and on the other hand women’s team won over Azerbaijan in the final round, achieving their first-ever gold medals at the prestigious event. In the men’s competition, D Gukesh, R Praggnanandhaa and Arjun Erigaisi achieved decisive wins in the 11th and final round.
The women’s team achieved their gold by win over Azerbaijan. In the video shared on social media, PM Modi interacted with the chess champions, including D Harika, Tania Sachdev, R Vaishali, Vidit Gujrathi, Praggnanandhaa and Arjun Erigaisi.
In the India’s victory, D Gukesh playing a crucial role won 10 out of 11 rounds in the open category and becomes the star of the tournament.
During the meeting with PM Modi players presented the Prime Minister Narendra Modi with a chessboard after which Praggnanandhaa and Erigaisi played a quick game of chess, which left Modi very excited.
Before meeting with PM Modi, the sports Ministry shared a video of the Indian chess contingent leaving their hotel and heading to meet to the PM Modi.
In Budapest, the Indian men’s team finished with a magnificent 21 out of 22 possible points, conceding only one draw (2-2) against Uzbekistan while defeating the rest of their opponent teams.
