Former Indian Cricketer Sanjay Manjrekar has criticized current head coach Gautam Gambhir’s handling of media interconnections. Manjrekar faiths Gambhir lacks the appropriate demeanor and communication style for such engagements, citing recent instances of Gambhir’s dull communications to reporter’s queries. Sanjay Manjrekar advises the BCCI should instead delegate media interactions to Chief selector Ajit Agarkar or captain Rohit Sharma.
Former India batter Sanjay Manjrekar feels that current head coach Gautam Gambhir does not have the ‘right demeanour nor the words’ when communicating with media and the BCCI should ‘keep him away’ from such duties.
On top Team India’s departure for the Australia tour (second batch), Gautam Gambhir on Monday interacted with media, where the 43-year-old, is in usual avatar, talked with brutal honesty and straightforwardness. During media interaction one such answer of Gambhir raised a few eyebrows when he told, “What Ricky Ponting has to do with Indian Cricket? I think he should think about Australian Cricket,” on a reporter’s question on Australian great recent comments on Virat Kohli’s poor form.
In another occasion, Gambhir also dismissed theories that after 0-3 whitewash of India against New Zealand at home, he is under pressure and told back a reporter, “What difference does social media make in my life, and for anyone’s life? When I took up this job, I always knew that I was going to be a highly difficult job and a highly prestigious job as well.”
Probably referring to the incidents, Manjrekar in a social media post told that BCCI should not put Gambhir in front of media, pointing out that captain Rohit Sharma and chief selector Ajit Agarkar can be better choices.
In the presser, Gautam Gambhir also put up a flattish defence for under- pressure captain Rohit Sharma and star batsman Virat Kohli, telling they are still incredibly hungry to perform and will rebound back in Australia.
“There are incredible people in the dressing room who have done a great job” Gautam Gambhir said.
Kohli has already arrived in Perth and the first batch of players that left India on Sunday evening will reached in Australia this evening. The first test between India and Australia will start on 22 November 2024 in Perth.
