D. Gukesh, Manu Bhaker, Harmanpreet Singh, and Praveen Kumar have been nominated to receive the Major Dhyan Chand Khel Ratna award, the press Information Bureau (PIB) verified on yesterday.

Full list of Khel Ratna and Arjun awardees : D. Gukesh, Manu Bhaker Harmanpreet Singh, Praveen Kumar are the four sportsperson to be awarded Major Dhyan Chand Khel Ratna award for the year 2024.

D. Gukesh became the youngest world chess champion at at the age of 18 last month, Manu Bhaker is a double medalist at the Paris Olympics, Harmanpreet Singh led the Indian men’s hockey team to their second-consecutive bronze medal at the Paris Olympics 2024, while Praveen Kumar seized the men’s high jump gold at the Paralympics with best ever jump of 2.08 meters.

The ministry of sports also nominated 32 athletes, involving 17 para-athletes, for Arjuna Awards. President of India at a specially organized function at Rastrapati Bhavan on 17th January 2025 (Friday) at 11 am.

With two bronze medals (10 m air pistol and 10 m air pistol mixed team), Manu Bhaker 22-year-old become the first Indian to win two medals at a single Olympics post-independence. With this achievement Bhaker became the first Indian woman shooter to win an Olympic medal.

Bhaker mixed team partner Sarabjot Singh is among those who are nominated for the Arjuna Awards. In the same Paris Olympics, Harmanpreet guide the Indian hockey team to its second consecutive bronze medal. Three years back, having won a bronze medal in Tokyo, Harmanpreet’s team fought like warriors as they defeated Spain to achieve the third place. As PR Sreejesh, who announced his retirement from the game, it was also a perfect farewell.
