Asia Cup 2025: After handshake controversy, Match referee appointed for India vs Pakistan super 4s match

ICC has appointed Andy Pycroft as the match referee for the critical Asia Cup 2025 super 4s match between India and Pakistan despite recent controversies and objections from the Pakistan Cricket Board regarding Andy Pycroft’s conduct.This conclusion follows allegations and subsequent threat of PCB to withdraw from the Asia Cup 2025, which was later determined through talks.

For the upcoming Asia Cup 2025 Super 4s match between India and Pakistan at Dubai International Stadium on Sunday, the International Cricket Council (ICC) has appointed Andy Pycroft as the match referee. Demand of PCB of removing Pycroft as the match referee for the Asia Cup for reportedly going against the code of conduct in instructing Indian captain Suryakumar Yadav and Pakistan’s captain Agha Salman to avoid handshakes during the last encounter.

In the match played between Pakistan vs UAE, Pakistan delayed their match by an hour. After successful debate between ICC, PCB and the Asian Cricket Council, Pakistan backed down and played the match vs UAE and secured their position in the Super 4s with a win.

Venue where the previous controversy unfolded, the India vs Pakistan rematch will take place, which had led to Pakistani captain Agha Salman’s absence from the post-match presentation.

With an undefeated record in the Asia Cup 2025, India enter the contest. Latest victory of India against Oman with a 21-run margin in Abu Dhabi. Indian team were the only team from Group A to maintain a good record, who previously defeated both the United Arab Emirates and Pakistan.

With victories over the United Arab Emirates and Oman, Pakistan cricket team enter into Super 4s, but they suffered a notable defeat against India. In the upcoming encounter, under the leadership of Agha Salman the Pakistan cricket team will be looking to upgrade their T20I record against India.
