Monty Panesar who is a former England cricket recently spoken about exclusion of star India batter Shreyas Iyer from squad of India for Asia Cup 2025. Ahead of the Asia Cup, Panesar also lauded on pacer Jasprit Bumrah. The Asia Cup 2025 will begin on 9th September 2025, for which all teams announcing their squads for the tournament. Ahead of the Asia cup 2025 one of the considerable talking points came when star batter Shreyas Iyer was not included in the Indian squad.
One of the most in-form batters in white-ball cricket of India was expected to include in the India’s Asia Cup squad. However, Shreyas Iyer’s exclusion in the squad became primary issues with many experts of cricket giving their takes on the same issues.
One of them former England cricketer Monty Panesar think about on the situation as well. Panesar suggested that Shreyas Iyer brings leadership skills to squad of India, and with the side having that area covered, the decision to retain Iyer out of the squad was made.
“One of the reasons Shreyas Iyer is probably struggling to get into the Indian squad is because he brings those leadership skills and, at the moment, possibly they have got that covered. It gives them an opportunity to bring in someone younger, a bit more exciting to play, who would be easier to manage for coach Gautam Gambhir. So I think he being the captain in IPL, makes it a bit difficult for him to get into that team,” Monty Panesar said India Today.

With the Asia Cup 2025 right close by, Monty Panesar lauded on star pacer of India Jasprit Bumrah. He said that best format of Jasprit Bumrah is T20 cricket, and he is confirm to excel for the Indian team in the upcoming Asia Cup 2025 as well.
