The announcement of India’s T20I squad for upcoming Asia Cup 2025 has thrilled debate over the not including the top players such as Yashasvi Jaiswal and Shreyas Iyer. Both of them were not picked in the 15-member squad even they are in-form batters during the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 season which is shortest format of the cricket.
Former greatest opening batsmen of all time Sunil Gavaskar, however, declined to criticise the selectors,telling he wants to refuse controversies over this selection of squad for Asia Cup 2025 since the squad has already been chosen.
Sunil Gavaskar opposed to question Yashasvi Jaiswal snub in Asia Cup 2025 squad
On Tuesday India announced their squad for T20 Asia Cup 2025. Even with his consistent IPL performances and a member of India’s World Cup-winning squad, Indian opener Yashasvi Jaiswal could not find a place in the squad of 15-member.
He is unlikely to play in any of tournaments’ matches as he was chosen as one of the five standbys. Shubman Gill has replaced Yashasvi Jaiswal, who was in reserve list when India became the current T20I World Champions.
Shubman Gill has added in the squad and named as the vice-captain.
“You can only pick 15 in the squad. Somebody has to miss out…No point in discussing whether A or B, or C should have been there. This is now our team. We can all have our opinions before the selection committee picks the team, but once the team is picked, we should back it fully. We should not be saying A should’ve been there or B should’ve been there. That only creates controversy, which the players don’t need,”Gavaskar said media.

Performance of Yashasvi Jaiswal for India in T20Is
Yashasvi Jaiswal has played total 23 T20Is for Indian team scoring 723 runs at a strong strike rate 0f 164. In the IPL 2025 season he scored total 559 runs in 14 matches. Yashasvi Jaiswal has been one of the most consistent performers for India and any team that he plays for.
The Asia Cup 2025 will start in the UAE and scheduled from September 9 to September 28 2025. The Asia Cup 2025 tournament will be played on a league basis, followed by Super Fours and the Finals.
