On Tuesday (August 19), the BCCI is set to announce the 15-member squad for Asia Cup 2025. As the first-choice players are now available for selection in squad, there will be few changes in the team. Shubman Gill is most expected his return to the T20I team. Will Abhishek Sharma get dropped? Will Sanju Samson make way for Shubman?
The selection committee which is Ajit Agarkar headed will announce the squad for the Asia Cup 2025 on 19th August 2025. Shubman Gill who is currently India’s white-ball vice-captain should make his way back to the T20I squad. The selector’s all the first-choice players are available for selection. Jasprit Bumrah is reportedly set to return to become part of the tournament.
If Shubman Gill makes his return into Asia Cup 2025, Abhishek Sharma could get dropped. Shubman Gill is the present vice-captain of the white-ball teams and there is no way that selectors would keep him out. He has proven himself in IPL and India tour of England. If Shubman Gill will return in the Indian squad it could force selectors to drop Abhishek. If a middle-order batsman is dropped for Shubman Gill then both can part of the team.

During India tour of England Sanju Samson and Abhishek Sharma were two openers in India’s T20I team against England. Even Abhishek Sharma was top-scored in the series and collected 279 runs but he could lose his spot if the selectors make a tough call.

On 19th August 2025, The Ajit Agarkar-led selection committee will meet to select the squad for the Asia Cup.
