According to BCCI’s rule, the election for the secretary’s post will have to be held on or before 14th January 2025. Mr. Roger Binny, who is presently President of The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) formally delegated the secretary’s powers to the incumbent joint secretary Devajit Saikia, following Jay Shah’s shifting to the International Cricket Council.
As per Rule 7 (1) (d), ” The president shall, in the event of a vacancy or indisposition of a office bearer, delegate the functions of another office-bearer until the vacancy is duly filled up, or the indisposition ceases…”
Binny wrote in a email to Saikia on Saturday, “I hereby delegate the function of the secretary to you till the post is duly filled up as per the processes laid down as per the BCCI rules and regulations….”
According to the BCCI’s rule, the election of the post of secretary will to be held on or before 14th January, 2025. The ruling BCCI exemption has so far been tight-lipped about Shah’s successor.
However, if Devajit Saikia taking charge, then it is possibility that he could continue until the Board’s next Assistant General Manager in September,2025 when a new secretary could be appointed.
Devajit Saikia was recently appointed as ICC’s board director and he will represent the BCCI in the global body.
