Pakistan, the defending champions, have been removed from the ICC Champions Trophy 2025 after back-to-back defeats by New Zealand and India. This marks another instance where host nation of Champions Trophy 2025 failed to capitalize on home advantage, with a final group-stage match against Bangladesh left as a mere formality.
After suffering back-to-back defeats against New Zealand and India, respectively the host nation, Pakistan the defending champions, have been knocked out of the ICC Champions Trophy 2025.
Pakistan early exit was sealed when New Zealand defeated Bangladesh on Monday, which eliminated Pakistan from the tournament before the knockout stage. With this, Pakistan became the third host nation, after South Africa and India, to be removed in the group stage of the tournament.

In Year 1998, Bangladesh was hosting Champions Trophy to promote cricket in the country, but they did not participate as they were not yet a Test-playing nation. In Year 2006, India hosted the Champions Trophy but unable to progressed past the group stage, finishing behind Australia and the West Indies.
In Year 2009, South Africa hosted the tournament but had a disappointing campaign, completing fourth in their group and failing to advance.
In year 2013, England and Wales hosted again tournament, with India defeating the hosts in the final to claim their second Champions Trophy title.
In year 2017, England once again hosted but were eliminated in the semi-finals by Pakistan, who went on to win their maiden Champions Trophy.
Now, In Year 2025, Pakistan hosted the Champions Trophy but suffered an early exit, marking another instance where the host nation failed to capitalize on home advantage.
