Day after Gambhir’s clarification Harshit Rana released from Test squad: Report

Before the second Test match against England Harshit Rana of India has been released from Test squad. Even India scored total 835 runs with five centuries in Headingley test and lost the Test, this decision was followed. England extraordinary chase of 371, led by 149 run of Ben Duckett secured a five-wicket victory of England. In the upcoming Test starting from 2nd July India tries to level the series.

With rest of the teammates, Harshit Rana was not spotted boarding the bus to Birmingham. India squad departed from Leeds by bus around 11:30 am local time and in just over three hours is expected to reach Birmingham. The Indian squad is set to rest for the next two days before starting training ahead of the second Test. In the second Test, they will be trying to level the series and keep the disappointment of first test lose of Headingley behind them.

“Harshit Rana has been released from the squad. He hasn’t travelled with the Indian team to Birmingham for the second Test starting July 2” PTI quoted a BCCI source as telling. The Indian squad left Leeds for Birmingham on Wednesday.

After the first Test loss in the Leeds, Gautam Gambhir confirmed that Harshit Rana might have to return home. Gambhir explained that Harshit Rana was brought in due to a minor injury concern within the squad.

Harshit Rana, who under Gambhir’s mentorship rose to celebrity during his period with the Kolkata Knight Riders in the IPL has long enjoyed the coach’s backing. Dehli pacer was handed in Test debut by Gambhir only in Australia. Rana then played two Tests and taken four wickets.

As India went a pace trio of Jasprit Bumrah, Mohammed Siraj and Prasidh Krishna in the first Test, Harshit Rana, Akash Deep and Arshdeep Singh warmed the bench. Shardul Thakur was taken in the squad as the sole seam-bowling all-rounder.

However, bowling attack of India failed to fire, as England chased down 371 in the fourth innings to win the first Test by five wickets.
