For Asia Cup 2025 defeat, PCB punishes Pakistan players? All NOC cancelled

Following Pakistan’s Asia Cup final defeat to India, The Pakistan Cricket Board has postponed all foreign T20 league No Objection Certificates (NOCs) for its players who is planning to participate in foreign T20 league. This move of PCB effects key stars like Shaheen Afridi and Babar Azam, reportedly to inspire focus on domestic cricket.

On Sunday at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium, Pakistan defeated by India by five-wickets, as the SuryaKumar Yadav-led Indian team secured ninth Asia Cup title of India.

Sumair Ahmad Syed, who is the PCB’s Chief Operating Officer, on September 29 issued a statement to players and agents regarding the suspension of NOCs.

Sevan Pakistani cricketers including key players such as Babar Azam, Shaheen Afridi, Faheem Ashraf, and Mohammad Rizwan scheduled to play in Australia’s Big Bash League (BBL) is directly impacts by this decision.

In addition, 16 players of Pakistan including Saim Ayub, Naseem Shah and Fakhar Zaman, are registered for the International League T20 (ILT20) auction, which is set to start on October 1 in the UAE.

The PCB has indicated that the this move is planned to encourage players of Pakistan to concentrate on domestic tournaments, specially Pakistan’s premier first-class competition, the Quaid-e-Azam Trophy, which is set to begin in October. However, it is not clear on when the current NOC suspension might be upholded or upto what time the evaluation process will take.

In the Asia Cup 2025, Pakistan defeated against India in three consecutive matches including a seven-wicket loss in the group stage, a six-wickets defeat in the Super Fours, and the five-wicket loss in the final.

As in the Asia Cup 2025 final Naqvi waited on one side of the stage, the Indian team remained nearly 15 yards away, decline to move towards stage. The delay continued for a long period, and then Naqvi finally stepped onto the stage, Indian fans hooted loudly, chanting “Barat Mata ki Jai” and lastly officials then informed Naqvi the Indian players would not take the trophy from him.
