For first Test against India Overton returns as England name squad

Jamie Overton, a 31-year-old is set for a Test comeback after a long period of three years of making his only appearance in red-ball cricket for the England against New Zealand in June 2022 at Headingley. Jamie Overton, however, comforted a broken little finger on his right hand during the first ODI against the West Indies on 29th May 2025 and is being evaluated on daily basis by the England medical team.

Along with Overton also making a comeback in the 14-member squad is seamer Brydon Carse and the Warwickshire pair of Jacob Bethell and Chris Woakes, having last featured in December during the Test tour of New Zealand. Due to minor niggles Woakes and Carse had missed out on recent win of England over Zimbabwe.

Meanwhile, Due to a hamstring injury sustained Gus Atkinson was not available for selection during the Test against Zimbabwe at Trent Bridge last month. The rest players of the squad for the series opener in Headingley, Leeds, beginning on 20th June is on expected lines.
