Fenway Sports Group (FSG) who is currently owners of Liverpool FC since 2010, have demobilized claims that they are talks to sell the club to Elon Musk who is billionaire. Supposition emerged after Elon Musk’s father, Errol Musk, hinted at his son’s interest in buying the Reds during a radio interview.
While Elon Musk’s father mentioned that Elon had ‘expressed a desire’ to overtake the club, reports from The Times confirm that there has been ‘no contact’ between Elon Musk and FSG. Journalist Matt Lawton also expressed that insiders are not taking such rumours seriously, highlighting that FSG has no desire to engage in discussions regarding a sale.
Errol Musk complicated on the family’s link to Liverpool, citing his mother’s birthplace and ropes to the city’s iconic Beatles as reasons for their link to the club. However, Errol Musk clarified that Elon’s interest did not necessarily translate into action.
Many Liverpool supporters will likely reassure after this update, as Mask’s ownership could clash with Merseyside’s cultural values. Musk, owner of X(formerly Twitter) and founder of Tesla has been associated with far-right political viewpoints, a stance misaligned with Liverpool’s character.
Liverpool Football Club becomes fourth-most valuable football club after Forbes valued it at £4.2 billion in May 2024 globally. Despite before exploration of a sale by FSG in 2022, those plans have since been abandoned, affirming their continued commitment to the club.
