Rahul Dravid will replaced by Gautam Gambhir as the new head coach of Indian men’s team and this will Gautam Gambhir’s first assignment as the head coach of Indian cricket team. Rahul Dravid currently led Indian team to the T20 World cup 2024 victory in the USA and West Indies. Gautam Gambhir has been officially announced as India’s new head coach. BCCI secretary Jay Shah committed on a social media post on Tuesday. Jay Shah confirmed on social media that ” It is with immense pleasure that I welcome Mr. Gautam Gambhir as the new Head coach of the Indian cricket Team. Modern-day cricket has evolved rapidly, and Gautam has witnessed this changing landscape up close. Having endured the grind and excelled in various roles throughout his career, I am confident that Gautam is the ideal person to steer Indian cricket forward,”

” His clear vision for Team India, coupled with his vast experience, positions him perfectly to take on this exciting and most sought-after coaching role. The BCCI fully supports him as he embarks on this new journey,” he added.

Gautam Gambhir was promoted to take over the role from Rahul Dravid ever since the latter expressed his diffidence to apply for another team. He was among only two applicants alongside VVV Raman for the post. Gautam was interviewed for the job last month by BCCI’s cricket Advisory committee. It will be the first Gautam’s assignment as head coach of a national team. He was earlier associated with Kolkata Knight Riders and Lucknow Super Giants as a mentor in Indian Premier League.

Gautam Gambhir will be in charge of the Indian national team for three and half years, started from 1st July 2024 up to 31st of December 2027. During his in charge period there will have several critical ICC tournaments lined up including the Champions trophy 2025, T20 World cup 2026,two world Tests championship finals (If India reach there) and ODI World cup 2027. BCCI had invited applications for the head coach’s position in May 2024.

Board of control for cricket in India also published a statement on Gautam Gambhir’s appointment. BCCI confirmed that Gautam Gambhir will jion the team from Sri Lanka series onwards later in July 2024. BCCI also thanks to the rest of the coaching staff along with Rahul Dravid for their service to the team.
