Head coach Gautam Gambhir to rejoin Indian team in Australia today

Indian cricket team head coach Gautam Gambhir missed the two-day warm-up game versus the prime Minister’s XI at Manuka Oval, which was reduced to a 46-overs-a-side contest due to chilly weather. Gambhir had left the tour on 26th November, the scheduled final day of the first Test in Perth.

Gautam Gambhir who was back to home due to “personal reason” after the victory in the series opener in Perth is set to rejoin the team in Australia ahead of second Test at Adelaide Oval.

India won the opening Test by 295 runs and with plenty of time left in the match and the second Test on the Border-Gavaskar Trophy, a pink-ball day-nighter, will start on Friday.

Gambhir’s top priority will be finalizing the playing XI after he links up with the Indian squad that has been make strong further after the arrival of captain Rohit Sharma as he missed the opening game of the five-match series due to birth of his second child.

In the absence of Gambhir, his three trusted deputies Morne Morkel, Abhishek Nayar and Ryan ten Doeschate supervise the team’s training and preparations for the tour match, which India won by six wickets.

The absence of Rohit Sharma was filled by pace spearhead Jasprit Bumrah who had led India in the Perth Test, and India won by six wickets.

Now after Rohit’s arrival and Shubham Gill also in estimation with a fine half-century in the warm-up game against the PM’s XI, Gambhir will have his task cut out as he gets down to select the playing XI.

Due to fracture of Shubham Gill’s right thumb during a training session, Gill had also missed the Perth Test.

The Indian Cricket team arrived in Adelaide from Canberra on yesterday afternoon and will have three practice sessions. Out of three practice sessions two will be under lights on today and Thursday.
