Highlights of India T20 World Cup 2026 squad announcement: Shubman Gill dropped, Axar Patel named vice-captain; Rinku Singh, Ishan Kishan return

Squad announcement of India T20 World Cup 2026 Highlight: On Saturday, the Indian cricket team for the T20 World Cup 2026 was named with a shock call as Shubman Gill was left out. Ishan Kishan and Rinku Singh returned as Axar Patel was named vice-captain. On Saturday, Ajit Agarkar named squad of India for the T20 World Cup 2026 and addressed a press conference with the captain of India Suryakumar Yadav. The Test and ODI captain of India has struggled for runs since his comeback to the team and was left out. Ajit Agarkar explained that the Indian team wanted a keeper to open the batting of the team. Axar Patel was named as the vice-skipper.

After two years, Ishan Kishan made a comeback to the Indian team, while after being dropped for the series against the South Africa, Rinku Singh also returned. From the 2024-winning squad of T20 World Cup, seven players are not included in 2026-T20 World Cup squad.

For the upcoming New Zealand series, the same 15 players will play too. While the ODI squad has not been announced. Till a week before, which means after the series against the Black Caps completes, India can still make changes to the squad.

On Wednesday, 18 February 2026, India vs Netherlands at Narendra Modi Stadium, Ahmedabad.
