How new IPL player replacement rule will benefit franchises: Explained

As many Australian players will unavailable for the remainder of IPL 2025, so BCCI has allowed franchises to sign temporary replacement who won’t be valid for retention next season of IPL. Delhi Capitals secured Mustafizur Rahman in place of Jake Fraser- McGurk for Rs 6 Crore as Jake Fraser-McGurk will not participate in remainder of IPL 2025.

As many of the Australian contingent expected to not participating in remainder of the Indian Premier League, the Board of Control for Cricket in India has permitted the franchises of IPL to sign temporary replacements, but those players will not permitted for retention for the next season of IPL.

A senior BCCI official said “The IPL Governing Council and the BCCI have reworked the players replacement rules, and the franchises are now allowed to make replacements for the players unavailable due to current situation, as their international calendars are overlapping with the rescheduled IPL,”

“So, the franchises can name replacements as of now, but those players will return to the auction pool and will not be up for retention.”

Media had reported that Australian opener Jake Fraser-McGurk will not participated for the remainder of IPL 2025, which will restart on 17th May 2025, and Delhi Capitals had already signs Mustafizur Rahman in place of him.

Mustafizur Rahman has already played 57 IPL matches and has taken 61 wickets. He has played total 106 T20I for Bangladesh, taken 132 wickets in those matches. He will join Delhi Capitals for Rs. 6 crore.

Left-arm quick Mitchell Starc of Delhi Capitals is pull out from IPL 2025, along with him Josh Inglis and Marcus Stoinis of Punjab Kings are not surely back to India, whereas the possibility of Xavier Bartlett and Aaron Hardie are 50-50.

Delhi Capitals will play their next match against Gujarat Titans at Arun Jaitley Stadium on Sunday whereas Punjab Kings will play their next match against Rajasthan Royals on same day at the Sawai Mansingh Stadium in Jaipur.
