In T20 World Cup opener match, India script ‘World Record’ after a hard-fought win over USA

With a knock of 84 to rescue India against United State of America (USA), Suryakumar Yadav led from the front in their T20 World Cup 2026 opener match. On Saturday bowlers of India built a disciplined effort after a middling batting display to subdue the United State of America by 29 runs, beginning their ICC T20 world Cup competition on a winning note. Pick of the bowlers was pacers Mohammad Siraj (2/29), Arshdeep Singh (2/18) and left-arm spinner Axar Patel (2/24), after India laboured to 161 for 9. In reply, the USA were cramped to 132/8. Milind Kumar (34), Shubham Ranjane (37) and Suraj Krishnamurthi (37) fought well but were no match to the big-match experience of bowlers of India.

Earlier, with a counter-attacking half-century (84, 49 balls), captain Suryakumar Yadav fought back to cover up the failure of top and middle order his colleagues. In the 13th over, Indian team were left stressed at 77 for 6 as Shadley van Schalkwyk (4/25) of USA tore through the batting, striking thrice in a tough sixth over to taken the wickets of Ishan Kishan (20), Tilak Varma (25) and Shivam Dube (0).

Indian Team script the world record of most consecutive wins in the T20 World Cup history with this victory. In the history of T20 World Cup history, this victory was the India’s ninth successive victory. India overtaking the previous record of eight by South Africa and Australia and now registered nine wins in a row.
