IND vs SA T20Is: South Africa fighting for survival whereas India on the cusp of series win

Ahead of the T20 World Cup in 2026, India and South Africa are batting it out for a psychological advantage. The ICC event T20 World Cup will begin on 7th February 2026 and defending Champions India are currently in the five-match T20I series leading the South Africa by 2-1. Proteas were the ones who lost the final 2024 to India.

For India series win on the cards

As far as the series is concerned, India have a chance to seal the deal as the fourth T20I is in Lucknow on 17 December, 2025. 5th T20I in Ahmedabad on 19 December is a dead rubber if India win in the fourth match. For the Proteas, survival is the key as they must win in the fourth T20 match to make it 2-2 and it will make the last T20 match in Ahmedabad the decider.

How the T20I series between India and South Africa has gone so far

Suryakumar Yadav led Indian team on 9 December 2025 won the first T20I match in Cuttack by 101 runs to lead the series by 1-0. In New Chandigarh, Aiden Markram led Proteas fought back to inflict a 51-run defeat on 11 December. With two matches remaining, the seven-wicket win by India on 14 December in Dharamsala gave India the series lead.

Landmark Achievements for Jasprit Bumrah and Hardik Pandya

In the India vs South Africa T20I series, Jasprit Bumrah finished 100 T20I wickets, whereas Hardik Pandya did the same and also finished 100 T20I sixes. This was comeback of Hardik Pandya along with Shubman Gill since both had been out for some time from cricket due to Injury. In the Asia Cup Super Four match vs Sri Lanka, Hardik Pandya got injured while Shubman Gill in the first Test vs South Africa suffered the same fate.
