In a two-Test series starting from 14th November in Kolkata at iconic Eden Garden, India and South Africa are set to encounter. Current World Test Championship winners, South Africa, face an Indian cricket team lifted by a recent series win. Historically, Team India holds a powerful home record against South Africa, who in India have not won a Test series in this century. The second Test will take place from 22 November, 2025 in Guwahati. Recently South Africa drew their Test series against Pakistan 1-1, while India enter the series after a 2-0 win over the West Indies.
South Africa have won 18 out of 44 Tests across all Test matches between the India and South Africa. India have won 16 Tests, while 10 matches ended in draws.
In India, the record moves in favour of the Indian cricket team. 19 Tests played in India between India and South Africa, out of which India have won 11 and South Africa have won five, and three Tests ended in draws.

In the 21st century, South Africa have not won a Test series in India.
Since 1996-97 India have hosted South Africa seven times, including five times in the 21st century. The two-Test series ended with India winning the second Test at Eden Gardens, Kolkata, while the first Test in Kanpur resulted in drawn during the 2004/05 tour. South Africa led 1-0 after winning the second Test in Ahmedabad, while the first Test in Chennai resulted in drawn in the 2007/08 tour, and Indian team in Kanpur leveled the series by winning the third Test in Kanpur.
South Africa again toured India in 2010. In the two-Test series South Africa won the first Test in Nagpur while India won the second Test at Eden Gardens in Kolkata and ended level.
India won the first, third, and fourth Tests during 2015/16 four-Test home series whereas the second Test was washed out. In 2019/20, India also won the three-Test series 3-0.
South Africa tour of 1999/2000: South Africa last time won Test series in India
Under the leadership of Hansie Cronje, South Africa last won a Test series in India in 1999/2000. In this series, Jacques Kallis received the player of the series award as he was the most consistent performer.
