India Tour of England: A brief history of India in England

On the English soil, here is a look at the Indian cricket team’s performances ahead of India’s 2025 tour of England. Team India will play five-match Test series slated to begin on the 20th June 2025. The first tour of Men in blues of England was in the year 1932, which went the way of England as the hosts clinched the only match of the tour.

India claim their first draw on the English soil, when India returned to England in the year 1936, but fell to a 2-0 defeat in the three-match series between India and England.

Before a decade India faced the Englishmen on enemy territory again, but time in 1946, in which India managed two draws in a three-match series that finished in favour of England, who had registered a victory.

In 1952, in a four-match series, England posted yet another series win as hosts managed three wins and a draw. In 1959 as the English unit ignored Indian in a 5-0 drubbing, before emulating the feat in a three-match series in 1967.

In 1971 India won the first Test on English solid and eventually the series and in this way this year was a historic year for Indian cricket as India won a match and two draws and absolutely no defeats in a three-match-series.

The England again restored their supremacy in 1974 with a 3-0 series win,before edging out their competitor in a four-match series in 1979.

The English men in the 1982 Test series picked up a 1-0 win, which contained three matches two of which ended in a draw. In year 1986 India registered their second series win in England as India in a three-match series felled the hosts 2-0 in a three-match series.

In year 1990 England picked up a graceful win in the three-match series with two matches ending with draw and hosts triumphing in the other, before reproducing the same six years later when India came visiting.

India’s tour of England in 2002 completed in a stalemate as both teams won a match each while sharing the damages on two times in a four-match series. But India in the three-match tour in 2007 series won a match with two draws to close out as winners.

In the 2011 series England won all four Tests in the tour.

Recently, India Test tour of England in the year 2021, India fought to split the series 2-2, with the other match finishing in a draw.
