The Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 has been suspended for a week with immediate effect due to escalating military actions between India and Pakistan, The Board of control for cricket in India verified on today. This decision comes after abrupt cancellation of yesterday match in Dharamsala which was hold midway after air raid alerts were sounded in neighbouring regions like Jammu and Pathankot.
“The BCCI has decided to suspend the remainder of the ongoing IPL with immediate effect for one week.” : BCCI secretary Devajit Saikia told in a statement. The statement also told that updates regarding a revised schedule and venues will be updated after extensive situation assessment, in consultation with authorities and stakeholders.
According to original schedule of IPL 2025, the season was finished on 25th May in Kolkata. Total sixteen match was remain, including 12 league matches and four playoff fixtures. It is being considered for resumption in September if the Asia Cup is canceled.
Amid the unstable situation, the BCCI expressed unity with the Indian government and armed forces, focusing that “Cricket is not above the nation’s sovereignty and security.” The BCCI also acknowledged the courage of Indian armed forces conducting “Operation Sindoor” in reply to the recent terror attack in Pahalgam, in which 26 peoples was killed on 22th April 2025.
