After dominant win of Mumbai Indians over Delhi Capitals, Mumbai Indians secured their position in playoff.Mumbai Indians must defeat Punjab Kings for securing in top-two position and desire for many losses from Gujarat Titans, Royal Challengers Bengaluru and Punjab Kings in their balance matches.
On Wednesday Mumbai Indians kicking with 59-run victory over Delhi Capitals kept their title dream alive. With victory over Delhi Capitals Mumbai Indians becoming the fourth and final team to attain a position in playoff of IPL 2025.
Now, the five-time champions with 16 points and one league match balance are focus an unlikely but possible leap on the first position in the points table.
Presently, top three spots occupied by Gujarat Titans (18 points), Royal Challengers Bengaluru (17 points), and Punjab Kings (17) respectively. Mumbai Indians has only one match left whereas GT, RCB and PBKS has two matches left to play – a key disadvantage.
If Mumbai Indians defeat Punjab Kings in their final group-stage match to achieve 18 points, But a win alone won’t be enough. In current top-three teams GT,RCB and PBKS, at least two must lose both of their reaming fixtures. This results Mumbai Indians as one of only two teams on 18 or more points, giving Mumbai Indians a chance to completing in the top two on the basis of Net Run Rate. If all three top teams losses their remaining two matches Mumbai Indians could even complete first. However, In top three, if two manage to win one match each, Mumbai Indians have chance in top two and double chance in Qualifier 1 – will be rushed.
