IPL 2025: Who is Kerala left-arm wrist spinner, Vignesh Puthur who dismissed Gaikwad and Dube on debut for MI against CSK?

Vignesh Puthur, a 23-year-old left-arm wrist spinner from Kerala was signed by the five-time champion for a base price of Rs. 30 lakh during the IPL 2025 mega auction. Vignesh picked the important wicket of Chennai Super Kings skipper Ruturaj Gaikwad in his very first over. When Vignesh bowled a full ball outside off-stump to Ruturaj Gaikwad, who hit it straight to Will Jacks down the ground. And in his second over, Vignesh caught Shivam Dube, who finished the hole to Tilak Varma at long-on.

Puthur’s third sufferer when he picked the deep square leg fielder off an attempted slog sweep was Deepak Hooda.

Vignesh Puthur is yet to represent Kerala team at the senior level. He was only played for the Kerala at under-14 and under-19 levels. He played in the Kerala Cricket League for Alleppey Ripples, where he only picked up two wickets from out of total three matches. He also had a spell in the Tamil Nadu Premier League.

In the Initially as a cricketer, Vignesh bowled medium pace and spin before Vignesh was asked to try leg spin by local cricketer Mohammed Sherif. He didn’t know what ‘chinaman’ was, however he kept working on his bowling.

After that he moved to Thrissur to further his cricket career and was one of the leading bowlers in the Kerala College Premier T20 league for St. Thomas College.

Due to his consistent performances for Jolly Rovers Cricket Club made him a place in the Alleppey Ripples squad for the Kerala Cricket League, which eventually changed his career.
