Unbeaten 115 of Sanju samson and clinical 4-18 of Jamie Overton powered Chennai Super Kings to a commanding 23-run win over Delhi Capitals and got their first victory of the IPL 2026 season at the MA Chidambaram Stadium on Saturday.

Sanju Samson, who was the hero of India’s Men’s T20 World Cup 2026 triumph, lit up Chepauk with the first century of the IPL 2026 season, scoring 115 off only 56 balls, laced with 15 fours and four sixes with a strike-rate of 205.36, as Chennai Super Kings posted a massive 212/2.

In doing so, Samson became the first wicketkeeper-batter to score an IPL ton for CSK and joined KL Rahul as the only players to hit a hundred for three different IPL franchises. He also shared a 113-run stand with Ayush Mhatre, who scored 59 off 36 balls.

Delhi Capitals started their chase brightly even the stiff target as in the fourth over, Pathum Nissanka and KL Rahul raced past the 50-run mark.

However, When CSK struck thrice in three overs, the momentum shifted decisively. Overton took 4-18 which was the best figures of the IPL 2026 season so far – and used hard lengths well to choke the middle order of the Delhi Capitals, along with CSK sharp ground fielding.

Overton got help from debutant Gurjapneet Singh and Anshul Kamboj, who claimed 3-35, as Delhi Capitals were eventually bowled out for 189 in 20 overs.

The result of match ended CSK’s six-game losing streak at Chepauk and gave CSK their first points of the IPL 2026 tournament. Samson and Ruturaj Gaikwad added 61 runs in the power-play after inserted into batting first. Samson, who was dropped on 52, achieved the three-figure mark with a flick off T Natarajan and celebrated in Padayappa-style salute that drew roars from Chepauk crowd donning yellow, chanting his name loudly. CSK crossed the 210-mark.

Chasing 213, Delhi Capitals started brightly and raced past fifty in the fourth over with some stunning stroke-play. After five overs at 61/1, Delhi Capitals appeared well placed, but CSK used other ideas – in the next over, Kamboj accounted for Nissanka with Dewald Brevis holding on to the chance at mid on. On the first ball with a wicket, Gurjapneet then marked his IPL debut as Axar Patel cut straight to Sarfaraz Khan at the backward point.
