Lakshmipathy Balaji faiths IPL 2026 is a critical test of consistency for 14-year-old Vaibhav Sooryavanshi. Balaji noted that opponents will have studied his weaknesses,making the second season challenging,as per India.com and The Times of India.
At decision of Rajasthan Royals, former pacer of India Lakshmipathy Balaji expressed surprise to hand the leadership to Riyan Parag for IPL 2026, nothing the presence of more seasoned battlers such as Ravindra Jadeja, Yashasvi Jaiswal, and all-rounder of England Sam Curran. On speaking to JioStar, Balaji called the move “kind of a gamble” but acknowledged under the guidance of head coach Kumar Sangakkara the potential positives.
Balaji explained “Captaining in the IPL is not just about on-field decisions, it’s also about managing the dressing room. Your voice and trust need to be earned. In that sense, it’s a double-edged sword. With Sangakkara’s guidance, though it could be a valuable learning opportunity for Riyan. If he balances his performance with leadership, it could really help him,”
The importance of consistency for young talents like Vaibhav Sooryavanshi was also highlighted by the him.
“We have seen the kind of talent Vaibhav has. That hundred against Gujarat Titans was impressive, but the second season is always tougher. Opponents will have studied him and maintaining performance will be a challenge. Sangakkara’s mentorship will be key for him to build consistency,” Balaji added.
