Neeraj Chopra scored 14 points from his two second-place finishes in the one-day encounters carried in Doha and Lausanne. On Thursday in Zurich he skipped the last series meet.
Two-time Olympic medallist India’s javelin throw star Neeraj Chopra has qualified for the Diamond League’s season finale after completing fourth fourth in the overall standings after completing its 14 series meetings around the world.The Diamond League’s final is set to run from September 13-14 in Brussels.
The 26-year-old Indian star Neeraj is two points unanchored of Czech Republic’s Jakub Vadlech. German star Julian Weber and Grenada’s Anderson Peters live in the top two spots with 21 and 29 points respectively. Anderson Peters had tweeted Julian Weber in the Zurich meet.
In the top six, Moldova’s Andrian Mardare(13 points) and Japan’s Roderick Genki Dean( 12 points) are the others to cement their berths in Brussels.
On the other side, Pakistan’s Arshad Nadeem, who won gold in the recently finished Paris Olympics with a throw of 92.97 metres, was out of the top six with five points only.
Neeraj Chopra, who won gold medal in the Tokyo Olympics which held in July-August 2021 and a silver medal in Paris Olympics over in last month, he has been struggling with his fitness this season.Neeraj, who is currently training in Switzerland, told about his struggles with a long-standing hip adductor strain, and told that he will consult a doctor and then decide on getting operated after the season ends with the Diamond League final.
The Panipat boy had completed second in the Lausanne Diamond leg,bested by Peters, who threw 90.61meters.
Neeraj Chopra who was winner of Diamond League Final which was in year 2022 and was a runner-up to Jakub Vadlech in 2023. He made a national record of 89.94 meters at the Stockholm leg of the Diamond League in 2022 and make a landing his career’s second-best of 89.49meter at the Lausanne meet last month only. His silver-winning attempt in Paris Olympics was a magnificent 89.45 meters.
The Diamond League finale will mark the completion of Neeraj Chopra’s season before Neeraj takes the long flight for back home.
