No rest for Team India: Gambhir, Gill fly from Australia to Kolkata for South Africa Tests

On Monday ahead of the upcoming two-match Test series against South Africa, Test captain of India Shubman Gill arrived in Kolkata from Brisbane, accompanied by senior pacer Jasprit Bumrah, all-rounders Nitish Kumar Reddy and Washington Sundar along with head coach Gautam Gambhir and members of the support staff.

Ahead of the upcoming two-match series against South Africa, Test squad of India has started assembling in Kolkata, with head coach Gautam Gambhir, captain Shubman Gill, senior pacer Jasprit Bumrah, all-rounders Washington Sundar and Nitish Kumar Reddy among the first to arrive at the Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose International Airport on Sunday evening.

A day after India completed their five-match T20I series against Australia, in which last match was washed out in Sydney on 8 November. with short time for recovery between formats, Gambhir, Shubman Gill along with other members of the squad boarded a direct flight from Australia to Kolkata to begin practices for the red-ball tournament.

Rishabh Pant makes his much-anticipated return to squad of Test cricket as vice-captain marking his comeback after approximately two years on the sidelines due to injury, while Shubman gill is set to lead the squad.

Later on Monday, the rest of the Test Team members including KL Rahul, Rishabh Pant and Dhruv Jurel is assumed to join the squad. From Tuesday at Eden Gardens, full-fledged training sessions scheduled to start. The first Test will begin on 14 November, followed by the second Test in Guwahati from 22 November.

After finishing the mixed Australia tour, losing the ODI series but winning the T20Is series by 2-1 under the leadership of Suryakumar Yadav, aim of Indian Team now shifts firmly to the World Test Championship (WTC). For campaign of India and Rishabh Pant’s return to the longest format both, the home series against South Africa holds additional importance.
