This cricket season has seen many twists in the past few months, and just like hosts USA, co-hosts Canada also have many wonders up their sleeves. On the contrary, Pakistan has been a major upset in this World Cup campaign. With this major upset, Canada has the golden chance to capitalize on underconfident Pakistan to end their 2024 T20 World Cup campaign.

After two thrilling losses at the hands of the USA and India, Pakistan has faced immense criticism and has even faced the wrath of several senior players alongside their new white ball coach, Gary Kirsten.

Especially after their humiliating loss at the hands of archrival India, the Pakistani coach showed his fury and disgraced some senior players of the side.

“These guys are all international players, and they’re aware that when they’re not performing at their best, there’s going to be pressure put on them. That’s understandable, but a lot of these guys have played a lot of T20 cricket around the world over many, many years, and it’s really up to them to decide how they’re going to take their games forward.”

Kirsten responded to the queries of the reporters when asked about the team facing intense pressure in the match against India.

Former Pakistan skipper Wasim Akram nailed criticism over their performance against India, as he said this was probably the easiest track in New York to play on, and chasing a 120 never gets tough on any such track.

“After this performance, I don’t think Pakistan deserves to go into the Super Eight.”

Akram slammed the Pakistani side.

Shahid Afridi also took to Twitter to slam the lack of intent of the experienced campaigners in the team, especially the opening duo.

“The Pakistan batting line-up simply isn’t clicking, and what we saw was a weak display of power hitting,”

Afridi wrote in his column for the ICC

He also suggested several changes that he would like to see in the Pakistani squad for the following games. To this, Kirsten agreed by saying that all players are experienced campaigners, and even he did not spend a lot of time with the players and hence cannot make quick changes.

Canada, despite being a newbie, has shown some commanding form against the USA, even in the first game, despite their early loss. After dominating against Ireland, they would now eye a serious upset against Pakistan, and this would be the biggest upset in the history of the World Cup.

6-players Hansi Flick can look to sign in FCB despite their low purse

Barca have signed the German boss as their new manager, and since then he has been making headlines. To overturn FCB’s fortune in the Spanish championship as well as the Champions League, Hansi Flick might look to bring in some key players to the FCB bench.

But given Barca’s recent financial stress, FCB spectators are quite keen to look at the way the German foresees his plan for the transfer market and selects players who fit in the FCB setup.

Here are six faces that Flick might have in mind.

Joshua Zirkzee

Flick would like to reunite with the Dutch international, who made a stunning debut under him at Bayern. The Bologna forward is one of the finest players to be assigned to FCB’s forward line, but owing to his 40 million Euro market value, his place can only be made at the loss of a player like Ferran Torres.

Anthony Martial

The Frenchman has spent 9 years of his career with the Red Devils. This would be one of the most desired signings at Camp Nou, as the FCB frontline needs quick reinforcement, and the versatile forward would be a perfect choice to fill in any attacking position.

Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting

The Cameroon star was Bayern’s replacement after Lewandowski left the Bundesliga in 2022. He enjoyed a great scoring streak before his prominence waned with a knee injury and the transfer of PL veteran Harry Kane. As a free agent, he can be Flick’s preferred signing as a bench reserve in the position of a forward.

Jeremie Frimpong

One of the pioneering reasons behind Bayer Leverkusen’s championship triumph was that the Dutch wingback would be a too-rich buy for the Spanish giants until they release some key players. Frimpong has been offered a deal by several teams; however, he can be a target signing for FCB and Flick to fill in the void of their acute agility and precision.

Bernardo Silva

The Portuguese playmaker is one of the most desired signings at Camp Nou since long. His tuning with former teammate Iikay Gundogan would be a move to strengthen the FCB midfield. However, with FCB’s low purse, signing a player of Silva’s caliber seems like a hefty decision this summer.

Joshua Kimmich

Possibly he would be Flick’s first-hand choice if they had an overflowing purse. The German wingback is too versatile to play at any position and is quick to attack. The German boss has seen inevitable success with the great flying wing back at Bayern, and their union would be a chance for either man to enhance their trophy cabinets.

T20’s are not a very formidable format where only major teams enjoy success, as on several occasions, underdogs have done wonders on the biggest platform of the game. This year, the extended format of the T20 World Cup has provided a platform for a huge number of underdog teams, including the likes of Scotland, the Netherlands, Namibia, Nepal, and Oman, along with newcomers USA, Canada, and Uganda.

The United States are the co-hosts of the T20 World Cup 2024, and they have been a constant surprise in the tournament, as they started with a high-scoring win against neighboring nation Canada, followed by a spine-chilling super-over victory against Pakistan. This would be marked as a historical day in the history of USA cricket.

After securing a win after a neck-to-neck contest in the World Cup encounter, Monank Patel claimed that they should have ended the game within the regular game overs. His disappointed tone, despite the valiant efforts of his teammates, proves how much intent they do produce both on and off the field.

Recently, there has also been a buzz over the USA, likely to be a tough opponent for the Men in Blue. India are the World’s No. 1 side, and no team seems to be a threat to them; however, the host side seems too well aware of their conditions, to which all other teams are struggling.

With players like Monank Patel, Saurabh Netravalkar, Harmeet Singh, and Nitish Kumar all having Indian roots, they may be looking to have a great start against India. Also, with international experience coming from Corey Anderson, Kenjige, and Aaron Jones, the team is what can be said to be immensely formidable for the conditions in the USA.

Though yet considered an underdog, if the USA make it to the Super-8, leaving behind Pakistan, then undoubtedly they will be raised in the standards of the game.

Afghanistan is undoubtedly the second most dominant side in Asia, following the Men in Blue. And according to the high standards set for the Asian side, they have awestruck all with their dominance in ICC tournaments since 2023.

The Afghans dominated on the subcontinent in the World Cup held in India last year. They set high standards, defeating heavyweights like England, Pakistan, and Sri Lanka. The world-class spinners of Afghanistan also wrecked havoc against Australia until a historic knock by Glenn Maxwell changed the fortunes of the Asian underdogs.

After the Champions of the World won the fixture against Afghanistan with Maxwell’s 200-run knock, Afghanistan were knocked out of contention for a semi-final spot. This caused a stir in the cricket world, and even some players faced huge criticism at the hands of not only the fans but also cricket experts.

However, Afghanistan’s skipper for the T20 World Cup, Rashid Khan, showed great confidence in his team’s chances in the cup. Owing to his words, his teammates seemed to excel at all ends, as they secured two major wins early on and have made quite a spot for them in the Super 8 stage.

In Case You Missed It: Skipper Rashid Khan’s immense trust in his star-studded batting lineup

Afghanistan seemed unstoppable, especially in their intense efforts against the Kiwis. It would be perfect to say that they shocked the world with their all-around brilliance.

Rashid claimed early on in the tournament that Afghanistan would not remain the side that has overreliance on its bowers; rather, they have uplifted their supreme batting standards.

Batting first, Gurbaz once again stood tall with his 80-run knock and took the Afghan innings to a firm total of 159. On the bowling front, Fazalhaq Farooqi and skipper Rashid Khan demolished the Kiwis and crashed their innings at 75. With this huge win over the most promising side in the group, Afghanistan has made a huge impact in order to be part of the Super-8’s of the T20 World Cup.

Though their fate is not yet sealed, they have fancied their chances for the next stage. With just a single hurdle, they may look to get past the Windies in order to secure their position. Rashid Khan, the Afghan skipper who attained the best bowling figures by a captain in the last game, will look to lead his team to a well-deserved World Cup knockout stage.

India and Pakistan, one of the oldest rivalries in the history of cricket, witnessed yet another thrilling encounter between the two sides in the T20 World Cup 2024. On the uneven track of New York, India went on to defend one of the lowest totals in the history of the World Cup.

India were put to the test first in a rain-affected T20 game on the unpredictable pitch of Nassau County. Pakistan started to dominate soon, with the four fast bowlers striking at regular intervals. India’s most experienced duo, skipper Rohit and veteran Kohli, fell early to the Pakistani pacers.

The Indian innings, despite the early storm, did not lose their momentum as Pant and Axar fought well and gave India a fair start of 80 runs in the first 10 overs. Pakistan players Rauf, Naseem, and Amir struck as they picked up seven scalps, leaking only 30 runs, ending India’s innings at 119.

Even Pakistan had a firm start, with Rizwan leading from the front. Indian pacer Jasprit Bumrah turned the tables first with the wicket of the Pakistani skipper and later came to provide the biggest breakthrough with Rizwan’s wicket.

At a stage, the required run rate rose as high as 10 when Siraj and Bumrah bowled stunningly and restricted them to a 12 run in 2 overs. Arshdeep removed Imad early, and India secured the match with an unthinkable effort from the Indian bowling attack.

With this win, India has now managed to win 7 times against their Asian rivals. India have raised their chances to be in the Super 8 stage of the T20 World Cup, securing two early wins, and alongside them, they have also provided a platform for the United States to also fancy their chances in the Super 8 stage.

From Shaheen Afridi to Virat Kohli : Five Memorable India-Pakistan T20s

India and Pakistan will clash in New York today(9th June 2024) for T20 world cup. It will 13th time in the cricket’s shortest format. Both nations only face each other in international tournaments due to political issues and lastly faced to each other in a 2022 T20 World cup in Melbourne, when India won. Total of 12 encounters in between India and Pakistan in T20 international match India wins nine but the honours are even in their last four matches.

Let’s take a look back at five memorable India-Pakistan T20 matches:

Wily Dhoni

The first T20 encounter between India and Pakistan in 2007 at Durban ended in a dramatic tie before being decided in a bowl-out–cricket’s equivalent of football’s penalty shoot-out. In the inaugural T20 world cup Pakistan elected to field in the group match and restricted India to 141-9.

Indian skipper MS Dhoni with the scores level at the end of Pakistan’s reply then outfoxed the opposition by choosing non-specialists to try to hit the wicket rather than regular bowlers used to tempting batsmen to offer catches.

Spinner Harbhajan Singh, part-time bowlers Virender Sehwag,Robbin Uthappa all hit the stumps, while Pakistan top-line pacemen Yasir Arafat ,Umar Gul and spinner Shahid Afridi all missed.

It was only time a world cup match has been decided by a bowl-out, with the tiebreaker now it is replaced by a super over. After meeting in a group stage of that inaugural world cup in 2007,both teams went on to face each other again after 10 days in the final in Johannesburg.

Set 158 for victory, Pakistan lost wickets regularly but Misbah-ul-Haq kept the target in sight with his courageous batting.

Pakistan reached the final over needing 13 runs against Joginder Sharma. Misbah hit a six after a wide and a dot ball, to need six from four balls only to opt for a scoop shot that got more height than distance.

It landed in the hands of S. Sreesanth at short fine-leg to trigger wild Indian celebrations as they won the world cup by 5 runs.

Shaheen Strikes

India was started as most predictive winner in 2021 T20 World cup group match in Dubai but Pakistani player Shaheen Afridi soon upset the predictions. Shaheen sent back opener Rohit Sharma for a first-ball duck as he rattled top-order batting line up finishing with 3-31.

Virat Kohli tried to recover with 57 but fell to Shaheen in the penultimate over. Pakistan’s skipper Babar Azam made 68 and Mohammad Rizwan 79 as Pakistan took the India bowling attack very lightly to a 10-wicket win—-their first ever world cup victory against their most competitive country.

All-round Nawaz

In the 2022 Asia cup super Four clash Pakistan returned to Dubai to face India after they were beaten by the neighbours in the group stage. India scored 181-7 with Virat Kohli ‘s 60 but total was not more in front of some disciplined bowling by Pakistan spinners Shadab Khan and Mohammad Nawaz.

‘King Kohli’ at MCG

Both India and Pakistan in most recently in a T20 met in an electric atmosphere at a packed 90000-capacity Melbourne cricket Ground for a 2022 T20 world cup group match. Pakistan scored 159-8 and had India in trouble at 31-4 before Virat Kohli played aknock for the ages with an unbeaten 82 off 53 balls, putting on a key stand of 113 with Hardik Pandya.

India needed 31 off the final 12 balls but Virat Kohli hit two sixes off pace bowler Haris Rauf in the 19th over and India won by four wickets on the final ball.

In true sense, Australia, the champions of the World Cup, took over their 14-year-old rivalry over defending champions England. Australia dominates winless England in the first major contest of the World Cup. The face-off from the finals of the 2010 T20 World Cup, where Collingwood’s men lifted the World Cup, was avenged by the Aussies in Barbados by Marsh and co.

Put on to bat first, Warner and Travis Head went on to have a brutal onslaught on the English bowling deck. They showered sixes until Moeen Ali broke the 70-run partnership in the final ball of the 5th over as he got Warner out with an arm ball that kept low.

Warner, in a pre-match interview, said that he will face the two England pacers, who are both accurate as well as brutal. Having a fair idea about the behavior of the pitch, Warner claimed that he knows how different are the tracks in Barbados.

“You just have to use their pace. In test cricket, they set different fields and different balls. In Twenty20 cricket, you only have to get half an edge on it, and it can go. So there’s a fair difference,”

Warner said about facing Wood and Archer

Just like he said, he dominated Wood in the very first over as he hit 3 consecutive sixes and took the 4th over for 22 runs.

The English bowlers, despite striking at regular intervals, could not intervene in the flow of runs in the Australian innings, as a team studded with star players kept scoring at a good rate even in the middle-overs.

Having posted a huge total of 201 on the slow tracks of Barbados, Australian bowlers were relieved of the pressure early on. Salt and Buttler started well as they played throughout the power play and posted a decent score. It was then Zampa who wrecked havoc as he got the two openers in the successive overs.

Adam Zampa with 6 POTM awards matches Glenn McGrath in ICC tournaments

Zampa’s early strikes were then complimented by Cummins and the other pacers. They together ruined the joint efforts of England’s experienced middle order, with the English innings crashing until restricted to 165.

The game has increased the chances of the Aussies making it to the Super-8 stage, while England are in deep trouble after their rain-affected draw against Scotland was followed by the humiliating loss at the hands of Australia. The defending champions would now be dependent on Scotland to seek their qualification certificates, which seems a reason for worry to Jos Buttler’s side.

Rivalries are often the most amazing part of any sport, though they are found mostly in sports like football. Cricket too witnesses several rivalries, and the biggest among them would undoubtedly be India vs Pakistan. These two Asian giants will square off in their second match of the T20 World Cup 2024 on Sunday.

Cricket fans from around the world, especially from different parts of India, travel to the States to witness yet another historic faceoff between the two biggest rivals of cricket. In T20 World Cups, India have been the one-sided heavyweights, having won on six occasions out of the seven times the two teams have faced each other.

However, will this highly anticipated contest be as thrilling an encounter despite the inconsistent form of Pakistan? Since 2023, Pakistan has faced a backlash in all major ICC tournaments and has also failed to perform against any major T20 side in the world.

ALSO READ: India is looking forward to battling a deadly Pakistani pace attack on the dangerous track of New York

Indian skipper Rohit Sharma claimed that a World Cup fixture against Pakistan is always thrilling. However, with their abundance of experience against the side, Rohit and co. do not find the Pakistan attack to be of major concern for them.

Pakistan, who are trailing in their batting department, faced a major backlash in their batting innings against the USA. Despite a not very formidable bowling attack, low pace, and fewer variations, the USA bowlers managed to trick the willow of the Pakistani batting order. Stunning players like Rizwan, Fakhar Zaman, and skipper Babar Azam all have suffered from a lack of form.

Pakistan’s major area of dominance has been their pace attack led by the four world-class pacers; however, with the likes of Rohit, Virat, SKY, and Pant, India has no concern with the high pace and would rather be comfortable facing the quicks on the slow tracks of New York.

The game might be even more difficult for the Pakistan side as they would now face Jasprit Bumrah and India’s top-notch all-rounders. With all concern for the underconfident Pakistani side, the Men in Blue would not fear the likes of the Asian rivals.
