This cricket season has seen many twists in the past few months, and just like hosts USA, co-hosts Canada also have many wonders up their sleeves. On the contrary, Pakistan has been a major upset in this World Cup campaign. With this major upset, Canada has the golden chance to capitalize on underconfident Pakistan to end their 2024 T20 World Cup campaign.

After two thrilling losses at the hands of the USA and India, Pakistan has faced immense criticism and has even faced the wrath of several senior players alongside their new white ball coach, Gary Kirsten.

Especially after their humiliating loss at the hands of archrival India, the Pakistani coach showed his fury and disgraced some senior players of the side.

“These guys are all international players, and they’re aware that when they’re not performing at their best, there’s going to be pressure put on them. That’s understandable, but a lot of these guys have played a lot of T20 cricket around the world over many, many years, and it’s really up to them to decide how they’re going to take their games forward.”

Kirsten responded to the queries of the reporters when asked about the team facing intense pressure in the match against India.

Former Pakistan skipper Wasim Akram nailed criticism over their performance against India, as he said this was probably the easiest track in New York to play on, and chasing a 120 never gets tough on any such track.



“After this performance, I don’t think Pakistan deserves to go into the Super Eight.”

Akram slammed the Pakistani side.

Shahid Afridi also took to Twitter to slam the lack of intent of the experienced campaigners in the team, especially the opening duo.


“The Pakistan batting line-up simply isn’t clicking, and what we saw was a weak display of power hitting,”

Afridi wrote in his column for the ICC

He also suggested several changes that he would like to see in the Pakistani squad for the following games. To this, Kirsten agreed by saying that all players are experienced campaigners, and even he did not spend a lot of time with the players and hence cannot make quick changes.

Canada, despite being a newbie, has shown some commanding form against the USA, even in the first game, despite their early loss. After dominating against Ireland, they would now eye a serious upset against Pakistan, and this would be the biggest upset in the history of the World Cup.

T20’s are not a very formidable format where only major teams enjoy success, as on several occasions, underdogs have done wonders on the biggest platform of the game. This year, the extended format of the T20 World Cup has provided a platform for a huge number of underdog teams, including the likes of Scotland, the Netherlands, Namibia, Nepal, and Oman, along with newcomers USA, Canada, and Uganda.

The United States are the co-hosts of the T20 World Cup 2024, and they have been a constant surprise in the tournament, as they started with a high-scoring win against neighboring nation Canada, followed by a spine-chilling super-over victory against Pakistan. This would be marked as a historical day in the history of USA cricket.

After securing a win after a neck-to-neck contest in the World Cup encounter, Monank Patel claimed that they should have ended the game within the regular game overs. His disappointed tone, despite the valiant efforts of his teammates, proves how much intent they do produce both on and off the field.

Afghanistan is undoubtedly the second most dominant side in Asia, following the Men in Blue. And according to the high standards set for the Asian side, they have awestruck all with their dominance in ICC tournaments since 2023.

The Afghans dominated on the subcontinent in the World Cup held in India last year. They set high standards, defeating heavyweights like England, Pakistan, and Sri Lanka. India and Pakistan, one of the oldest rivalries in the history of cricket, witnessed yet another thrilling encounter between the two sides in the T20 World Cup 2024. On the uneven track of New York, India went on to defend one of the lowest totals in the history of the World Cup.

India were put to the test first in a rain-affected T20 game on the unpredictable pitch of Nassau County. Pakistan started to dominate soon, with the four fast bowlers striking at regular intervals. India’s most experienced duo, skipper Rohit and veteran Kohli, fell early to the Pakistani pacers.

The Indian innings, despite the early storm, did not lose their momentum as Pant and Axar fought well and gave India a fair start of 80 runs in the first 10 overs. Pakistan players Rauf, Naseem, and Amir struck as they picked up seven scalps, leaking only 30 runs, ending India’s innings at 119.

Even Pakistan had a firm start, with Rizwan leading from the front. Indian pacer Jasprit Bumrah turned the tables first with the wicket of the Pakistani skipper and later came to provide the biggest breakthrough with Rizwan’s wicket.

Alongside him, all-rounder Hardik Pandya also came back strongly and removed the two hard-hitting options, Fakhar Zaman and Shadab Khan. Arshdeep removed Imad early, and India secured the match with an unthinkable effort from the Indian bowling attack.

With this win, India has now managed to win 7 times against their Asian rivals. However with the help of Suryakumar Yadav’s stunning catch in second over of Jasprit Bumrah he got Babar Azam. Pakistan scored 35/1 in the powerplay. India came active again after the 10th over. Hardik Pandya took 2/24 while Jasprit Bumrah took 3/14 and it came down to Pakistan needing 18 to win off the last over.

Pakistan’s pacers and their fielders backed Indian team all out for 119 runs in 19 overs. Virat Kohli played just three balls before falling to Naseem shah in the second over after which Shaheen Afridi dismissed Rohit Sharma in the next over at the Nassau County Stadium. Axar Patel was sent back ahead of Suryakumar Yadav and he gave India some energy in the powerplay along with Rishabh Pant.This pairscored 39runs for the third wicket off 30 balls before Axar fell on 20 off 18 to Naseem.

The very awaited match between India and Pakistan delayed by half an hour due to rain. Pakistan won the toss and chose to bowl first. However, rain returned which impact the match and led to a further delay in the start of the match. When the match finally started Rohit Sharma hit eight runs off the first over bowled by Shaheen Afridi. which was followed by yet another rain delay.

India and Pakistan will clash in New York today(9th June 2024) for T20 world cup. It will 13th time in the cricket’s shortest format. Both nations only face each other in international tournaments due to political issues and lastly faced to each other in a 2022 T20 World cup in Melbourne, when India won. Virat Kohli tried to recover with 57 but fell to Shaheen in the penultimate over. Pakistan’s skipper Babar Azam made 68 and Mohammad Rizwan 79 as Pakistan took the India bowling attack very lightly to a 10-wicket win—-their first ever world cup victory against their most competitive country.

All-round Nawaz

In the 2022 Asia cup super Four clash Pakistan returned to Dubai to face India after they were beaten by the neighbours in the group stage. India scored 181-7 with Virat Kohli ‘s 60 but total was not more in front of some disciplined bowling by Pakistan spinners Shadab Khan and Mohammad Nawaz.

The game has increased the chances of the Aussies making it to the Super-8 stage, while England are in deep trouble after their rain-affected draw against Scotland was followed by the humiliating loss at the hands of Australia. The defending champions would now be dependent on Scotland to seek their qualification certificates, which seems a reason for worry to Jos Buttler’s side.

Cricket fans from around the world, especially from different parts of India, travel to the States to witness yet another historic faceoff between the two biggest rivals of cricket. In T20 World Cups, India have been the one-sided heavyweights, having won on six occasions out of the seven times the two teams have faced each other.
