The Australia’s great former cricketer Ricky Ponting have faith Virat Kohli is the first player picked in the Indian squad for next month’s ICC Men’s T20 World cup 2024 and revealed where he thinks the star right-hander should bat.

Australian cricketer Ricky Ponting, a 3 time ICC Men’s cricket world cup winner, says that as in recent times Virat Kohli remains as relevant to India’s fortunes as before, as consider strike rates have taken precedence over averages.

Ricky Ponting told the ICC ” The mantra I think for the teams three or four years ago, was making sure that someone at the top of the order made 80 or 100, even if it took them 60 balls, it didn’t really matter”.

Ponting thinks the 35- year-old will be best served opening the batting alongside skipper Rohit Sharma at the T20 world cup while Virat has mainly batted at No.3 for India in the shortest format in the past.

“As Yashasvi Jaiswal is in that squad and one thing they have not got a lot in their team is left-hand batters, so selectors have still got a decision to make” Ponting observed.

“So selectors have got a decision to make with Jaiswal, but I am sure that they will go with Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma as openers.”

“He can play his role at the top , and if you have got the right guys around him scoring like him Suryakumar Yadav ,Rohit Sharma’s going to have a high strike rate”.

According to Ponting,Virat Kohli can stand out in big matches worked in his favour.

” I remember having this chat and some other chats I did for the ICC about there’s some talk about Virat Kohli not being in their team only last year, but what happened when the big games come around, he was one of the guys who got the job done” Ricky Ponting noted.

The 9th edition of the ICC Men’s T20 World cup will have record number of teams with 20 different sides represented in a tournament co-hosted by the West Indies and USA from duration 1st June 2024 to 29th June 2024.

All 20 teams are divided into 4 groups of five team for the first phase of the event.Each team will play minimum of four matches against their other group members during the first stage.

The top two sides from all four group then progress to the super 8s stage of the event,with the bottom three teams from each group eliminated.During the super 8s phase the remaining eight teams are split into another two groups, with sides to play three matches against their group rivals to determine the semi-finalists.

From each super 8s group the top two teams will play the semi-finals.Winners from two semifinals will progress for the final match in Barbados on 29th June 2024.Total of three venues in USA and six in the Caribbean will used during the T20 world cup 2024. The blockbuster clash between India and Pakistan scheduled for the new Nassau county International cricket stadium in Long Island on 9th June 2024.

In the caribbean across six different islands forty-one matches will be played along with semi-finals in Trinidad and Tobago and Guyana before the final scheduled in Barbados on 29th June 2024.

The most of team of T20 World cup 2024 participants have named preliminary squads for the T20 world cup with teams allowed to make unlimited changes to their 15-player squads until 25 May 2024. Any change after that date will require the approval from the ICC’s Event Technical committee.

From 27 May to 1 June 2024 the ICC Men’s T20 world cup 2024 warm-up match fixtures will be played.The warm-up match fixtures has been scheduled from Monday 27 May 2024 to saturday,1 June 2024 across the Tobago,Trinidad and USA.

16 warm-up matches ahead of the ICC Men’s T20 World cup 2024 will played on venues Grand Prairie Cricket Stadium in Texas,Broward County stadium in Florida, Queen’s Park Oval and Brian Lara cricket Academy in Trinidad and Tobago.

15- player squad for ICC Men’s T20 World cup 2024 announced by India.

Indian squad will lead by Rohit Sharma in long awaited glory as BCCI announced their squad for ICC Men’s T20 World cup 2024 squad.Before announcement wicketkeeper selection was uncertain. Lastly India handover this responsibilities to Rishabh Pant and Sanju Samson.

In December 2022 accident of Rishabh Pant was happened and after more than 1 year he returned to international cricket for the first time.That accident kept him on the sidelines for more than a year.

Shivan Dube’s IPL form recently in T20I series against Afghanistan made it difficult for him to be left out as he kept his place in the squad.The 30-year-old is in good form for the Chennai Super Kings scored 350 runs in nine matches with impressive strike rate of 172.41.

Yuvraj Singh appointed Ambassador for T20 world cup 2024.

The International cricket council has appointed India player Yuvraj Singh as an Ambassador for the T20 World cup 2024.T20 World cup 2024 set to played in the USA and West indies from June 1-29.
