Men’s 400 metre individual medley
With a dominating victory in the men’s 400m individual medley, Leon Marchand delivered a swimming gold for France.He was ahead as soon as his head popped out of the water frequently pulled back from the field, basically competing in two separate races: one versus clock and second versus his rivals for silver and bronze.
Leon was under world-record pace at the final round but faded slightly towards the finish, reaching in 4:02.95- an Olympic record,but just diffident of his own world record of 4:02.50.

With this outstanding achievement Leon Marchand went where no swimmer has gone before by winning both the 200m breaststroke and butterfly golds on the same night- both in Olympic record times.He achieved his first medal of the day by setting a new Olympic record in the men’s 200m butterfly with a time of 1:51.21, breaking Kristof Milak’s record of the 2020 Tokyo Games.
Early Life and family background : Leon Marchand was born on 17th May 2002 in Toulouse,France. He is the eldest son of former French medley swimmers Xavier Marchand who was also French medley swimmers and Celine Bonnet a former French backstroke and medley swimmer who completed in the 1992 Summer Olympics.Leon Marchand qualified in his first event for the 2020 Summer Olympics and won bronze at the World Junior Swimming Championships in August 2019 in Budapest.
