Under the leadership of Shubman Gill, India prepares to start a new era in Test cricket. Former Head coach of India Ravi Shastri has shared an advice for the new and young captain Shubman Gill.
Talking on the The ICC Review, Ravi Shastri encouraged Gill to keep patient and composed as he steps into one of the most challenging roles in world cricket – In a five-match Test series in England Gill leading Indian Test team. “I think, take your time,”Shastri told, offering his guidance to the Shubman Gill. “It is not going to be easy. He is been asked to do a tough job – that is to captain India on a tour of England.”
From the longest format of cricket, Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli recently announcing their retirement, Gill has been handed the responsibility of leadership of Indian squad. The series starting today at Headingley is the first assignment in the 2025-27 ICC World Test Championship (WTC) cycle.

Shastri faiths the England tour will serve as a essential phase in Gill’s leadership journey.
“It is never easy,”Shastri continued, “but I think he will learn from this exposure.”
Ravi Shastri also told on Gill’s recent leadership stint in the IPL 2025, where Gill leaded Gujarat Titans.
“What I saw of him in the IPL with the Gujarat Titans, he seemed very composed and calm. He is got a good temperament.”
Shastri resulted by highlighting the broader significance of the journey ahead for Shubman Gill. “He is matured as an individual, he is got some young players around with him, and I think it’s a learning curve as far as Shubman Gill goes.”
