On the Olympic debut with a conclusive 90-79 Group C opening win over Puerto Rico, South Sudan dismiss an anthem blunder by the Paris Games organisers on Sunday and bounced back in style to earn their first men’s basketball victory.

Before win over Puerto Rice the organisers accidentally played the anthem of neighbouring Sudan-and later apologised for that fault. As we know South Sudan free from Sudan after a poll in year 2011 but still controversy over borders, political power continued to fight between the two.

Fans expressed their frustration just after this with one of fan proudly waving the South Sudan flag and start shouting until the wrong anthem was stopped.

The “Bright stars” ex. NBA All-Star Luol Deng who is also the president of the country’s basketball federation since 2019 has become Olympic battlers and thanks to the his work.

Forward Wenyen Gabriel was telling ” This victory means everything. It’s a unifying moment. We’re all united now through basketball and it’s proof of what sport can do for a country,”
