After the Italian side, another dominating European side Denmark has bitten the dust, as the hosts have proceeded into the Quarter-finals. Germany rattled the Danish set-up; however, controversial VAR decisions limited the scoreline for either side to a 2-0 victory for Germany.
The hosts seemed to be on the front foot from the very beginning minutes of the game, as Tah’s replacement Schlotterbeck headed home from the first major corner of the Germans. The VAR, however, denied his chances to be on the scoring sheets in the opening minutes of the game, as Kimmich’s block on the Danish midfielder was given a foul, which ruled out his goal.
Soon Kimmich tried to retrieve the lead with a fierce, distant strike but was denied by Schmeichel’s firm fist. The thunderstorms denied gametime to either team, as it changed the momentum for Denmark and they started posing a major threat in Germany’s penalty box.
Rudiger once again proved why he is often said to be the finest among defenders in world football, and so was Neuer as he denied multiple chances at the German goal, including his stretched body block against Hojlund.
The second half turned the fate for Germany, as now Denmark was denied a goal by 2024 Euro’s biggest villain, VAR. To rub salt in the wound, Andersen was fouled over a handball that offered a penalty to the hosts. Arsenal forward stepped up and kept his composure to give Germany their long-desired lead.
