Request of Bangladesh to shift the venues for their ICC T20 World Cup 2026 matches in India is unlikely to accept by the International Cricket Council. This posture follows a risk assessment report by the ICC, which calculated that security concerns were low.

With Bangladesh scheduled to play four league-stage matches in India, the ICC World Cup 2026 is set to kick off on 7 February, 2026. A source from ICC recently said the PTI that during Bangladesh participation in the tournament, the risk assessment report doesn’t indicate any direct or specific threat to the Bangladesh Team.

Earlier Asif Nazrul, an advisor to the Bangladesh sports ministry claims and had told that inclusion of pacer Mustafizur Rahman in the team of Bangladesh would contribute to the overall threat.

An anonymous source of ICC said to PTI “It is important to clarify that the ICC’s independent risk assessments, carried out by internationally recognized security experts, do not conclude that Bangladesh can not play its scheduled matches in India.”

The ICC source added that the overall security risk for the tournament has been assessed as low to moderate, consistent with the security risks associated with many major global sporting events.

On venue relocation, Bangladesh Cricket Board clarifies its stance

On the matter, The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has clarified its position “The correspondence cited today by the Advisor for the Ministry of Youth and Sports was in reference to an internal communication between the BCB and the ICC’s Security Department related to threat assessments for the Bangladesh team ahead of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup,” it told.
The board repeated its request for relocation of matches outside India “in the interest of the team’s security.”

In security arrangements for T20 World Cup, ICC remains confident

The ICC source said ” The ICC has full confidence in the security arrangements being developed in close collaboration with the BCCI and relevant local authorities, who have a strong and proven track record of safely delivering major international sporting events,”

The ICC source added that security planning of ICC is an ongoing process with participating members, including BCB, being consulted as part of this process.
