T20 World Cup 2026: ICC warns Pakistan of ‘implications’ of not playing India: ‘Itself a member and beneficiary’

About PCB’s decision to boycott T20 World Cup 2026 match against arch-rivals India, the international Cricket Council (ICC) has warned Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) of ‘long-term implications’. An announcement made on Sunday (Feb 1) by Pakistan government confirmed the participation in the upcoming ICC tournament but also told that Pakistan Cricket Team won’t be taking the field against India on Feb 15 in Colombo. With the final scheduled to played on March 8, the T20 World Cup 2026 is set to begin on Feb 7. Pakistan, which are along with co-host India, USA, Namibia, and Netherlands are in Group A begin their competition in T20 World Cup 2026 on opening day against Netherlands in Colombo.

The global cricket body took awareness of the matter after the statement of Government of Pakistan and issue a statement of its own.In Pakistan Government statement, ICC noted in the statement that it is yet to receive a formal communication from the PCB about their decision of not taking field against India. The supreme body also warned the PCB of result of its decision.

The parts of the statement read ” ICC tournaments are built on sporting integrity, competitiveness, consistency and fairness, and selective participation undermines the spirit and sanctity of the competitions. The ICC hopes that the PCB will consider the significant and long-term implications for cricket in its own country as this is likely to impact the global cricket ecosystem, which it is itself a member and beneficiary of,”

Demand of Bangladesh of shifting matches outside India over security concern had supported by Pakistan. Pakistan, however, in support to cause of Bangladesh decided not to play against India on Feb 15. Bangladesh’s demand of Shifting of matches outside India had refused by the ICC and then Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) then refused to take part in the T20 World Cup. The ICC then replaced Bangladesh with Scotland in Group C of the T20 World Cup 2026.
