Abhishek Sharma has scored 80 runs in six innings with an average of 13.33 in the ongoing T20 World Cup 2026 which included only one highest score of 55. Ravi Shastri who is former India head coach has urged the team management to continue backing Abhishek Sharma for the semi-final of the T20 World Cup provided that there are no concerns about his confidence or mindset. In the T20 World Cup 2026 performance of Abhishek has been disappointing and Shastri faiths that showing faith on big stage in him can yield results. His strike rate of 131.14 in the ongoing World Cup reflects that his campaign lacked consistency. For Abhishek Sharma things did not go well since the very start. Initially he had stomach infection due to which Sharma was hospitalised then when he joined back in playing XI he struggled for finding his rhythm back.

During T20 World Cup 2026 knockout matches Ravi Shastri has opined that team needs to continue with Sharma but also mentioned that the final decision lies with the team management and how they assess him.
Ravi Shastri told on ICC Review “Unless the team management realizes that, mentally he is not there. If mentally, his mindset has taken a beating, it’s for them to judge from the outside, in conversations with him, just seeing the way he is batting in the nets,”
He added “If that’s the case, then and only then will I think of putting Ishan Kishan up the order and then probably Rinku Singh bringing him, at the bottom,”
Shastri told “That could be the only change, but I would still persist with him because last time India played England, he had a terrific series against them. I won’t take that away at the Wankhede,”
He added “He is done well in the past.He is got some big hundreds there and very quick hundreds. I’ll persist with him because there’s enough firepower in that batting,”
